Is the game really centered around people just defending?
I was reading the review over on Out of Eight
http://www.outofeight.info/2010/08/batt ... eview.html
and he mentioned that all people do is hunker down and wait for others to attack. Is that the trend most are seeing in the online game or does Slitherine plan on doing something to make people be more flexible and go on the offensive more often?
Just wondering before I get the game
Thanks

Depends on the scenario you are playing. Some require a fighting withdraw, some are very defensive for one side, others are very much engagement battles. I would say I have defended and been defending equally. You are better off using tactics that work though and if that means setting up a kill zone for the enemy to go into - well that is just good command and control/tactics. There is also some hunkering down waiting for reenforcements etc etc, I find the game very well presented with regards to different tactical usage of forces!

Well, that's not what everyone does, I just found out that's one strategy that seemed to work well for online matches, if memory serves.Hudson wrote:I was reading the review over on Out of Eight and he mentioned that all people do is hunker down and wait for others to attack

After last patch release, ALL multiplayer scenarios have a timer and flag objectives, which means playing on the defensive is no longer a viable tactic in most of them. At least, first you need to consolidate your minimum requested objectives to win the scenario and then defend them...if you managed to get to them first, of course.
Try it out, lots of fun!

Just sitting and defending won't protect you from me.
Most terrain tends to be fairly readable. If I know you are there, I will lambaste that location with support fire and them move in an sponge up the mess.
I've never experienced a defensive posture that was ideal.
The best defense IS a good offense. The moment you surrender initiative, your loss is just a question of time.

There are a few maps where one side gets the high ground and the flags and all you have to do is just sit there and not move, support will not do a whole lot if you have your armor spread out.. Just saying some of the maps even with VPs are still very unbalanced. There is an editor but seems noone has done anything with it, other then single player scenarios, the tools are there there is just a lot of work involved.
