Middle Eastern Village

Post by Polkovnik »

I've picked up some 6mm middle eastern buildings that I will be using to make a village. I play in 15mm but I wanted to use smaller scale building so it actually looks like a village. I will use this for biblical, classical ancients and crusades games. I'm going to make a baseboard that the buildings will sit on, but I don't really know what this should look like. Should I just do it as a sandy looking base (textured paint and crushed cat litter), or should I put walls, hedges and streets, etc on it ? Any suggestions or photos of similar villages / bult up areas appreciated.

I've also got some Roman buildings and I plan to do something like this as the baseboard (thanks to lurkio for the inspiration)-

You could paint a road through the middle. But any other features should be movable to allow troops to move across unhindered by the buildings etc. Just move them out of the way to make room for the troops, and put them back afterwards.
Thracians
Classical Indians
Medieval
-Germans (many flavors), Danes, Low Countries
Burgundians
In progress - Later Hungarians, Grand Moravians
