Minor niggle

Stalemate positions.
e.g.
Your cavalry surge forwards, for whatever reason, charge, pursuit.
They stop just outside disordering terrain. Inside said terrain, 2 MU away, is some MF. The cav can't go in and the MF can't come out, and neither can move away because they are pinned.

Or your dailami do the same and vice versa.

Usually when BG end up in these positions most troops are committed so these 2 BG just sit and stare at each other.

Its only happened to me maybe 3 times. It just seems odd.

Agree odd - they probably wait for one of them to have friends wander over and find out where they got to... however being wargamers they have not got any friends who care enough to come and find them... :)

Look on the bright side, stops them being caught up in the Benny Hill phase...

Its a whole can of worms - if the terrain is forest then the troops inside are pinned by an enemy that cannot even see them!

I cannot think of a simple rule to solve it that would not be abused.

If limited to extremely narrow circumstances (i.e. - the MF/Mtd terrain scenario) something derived from the break off rules could make sense. Mounted break off from steady foot in the open because sticking around is dumb. Why not break off from these stalemate positions as well?

The rule would have to be very well written to avoid abuse.

Well, if it is decent MF (like dailami) and typical poncy Cv with B, Sw, then you just charge they will run away squealing. :D

Lancers are an issue though.

For cavalry with bows you missed the "like girls" bit at the end.

Well if you put the cav there to create the stalemate isn't that wat you intended?

Only easy solution to these sorts of situations is a fall back move of some form.

So probably not worth worrying too much about really.

My lancers do very little of their own, or my, accord once combat is joined, they just end up pursuing into those positions

Perhaps at the points in the rules where it says troops stop at terrain that would disorder/severely disorder them change that to something like.

Troops pursuing/charging/evading etc stop 2 inces away from terrain that would severely disorder/disorder them if they would not otherwise contact enemy before reaching the terrain.

Wordsmiths could tart this up a bit but essentially you would only get to this stalemate postion intentionally (if you know what you are doing).

You could say a unit in a restricted zone of a unit in terrain that disorders it can roll a CMT -2 with nor quality re-rolls. To back up one half MU.

Make it hard, make it slow.

Then wonder why we really need the rule. Be a man and charge in or out and slaughter the other side.
