Here's a thread with some (mini) AAR's from my multiplayer games.

Please do not post into this thread (eventually make another one for comments, if anyone feels like doing it).

Thank you and enjoy them!

LoEG Season 3 IF Division A
cothyso (Later Hoplite Greek) 10/40 vs jimcrowley (Provincial Galatian) 37/37

A complete turnover of the left wing matched by a strong midfield battle line push and stiff resistance countering a right flank envelopment managed to put all the galatians to flight in a furious clockwise turned battle.

LoEG Season 3 IF Division A
cothyso (Later Hoplite Greek) 23/40 vs davouthojo (Indo-Greeks) 56/55

a heavy contested battle in a narrow plain edged by wooden hills. the greek alliance phalanx pursued an apparently retreating mobile screen of bold skirmishers, chasing them towards their camp only to discover that actually it was provoked to disorganise its ranks and lured into a trap: an enemy pike phalanx pushing across valley's bottleneck, with cavalry and skirmishers emerging from woods and constantly harassing their right flank and backs. a bitter struggle emerged in the vicinity of the indo-greeks camp which in the end decided the victory.

LoEG Season 3 IF Division A
cothyso (Later Hoplite Greek) 10/40 vs Ironclad (Early Sarmatians) 41/41

greek alliance lads went fishing, with phalanx chasing horses and cavalry chasing postal runners all across an open field with their pretty nets, also sacking their stalls during the process, in order to gather the mighty herd into a corner and transforming it into a slaughterhouse. no quarter was given, as the angry and frustrated greeks washed down all the chase eaten dust in sarmatian blood.

chasing LF with cavalry and not being able to catch them (as they were always evading 4 hexes away and the move on their turn to yet another missile volley) in countless successive charges for 20 turns is simply ridiculous.

LoEG Season 3 IF Division A
cothyso (Later Hoplite Greek) 9/40 vs iandavidsmith (Later Spartans) 49/49

a head-on clash between the democratic greek alliance and oligarhic spartan phalanxes, with the spartan cavalry trying to envelop left and some lightly armed hoplites supported by thracian infantry trying to envelope the right greek alliance's wings, while the alliance cavalry was trying to exploit a gap between the spartan center and their left flank. in the end, some elite spartan units broke under the tremendous pressure which triggered a collapse of the whole spartan center, followed by a rout of their left wing and the massacre began.

LoEG Season 3 IF Division A
cothyso (Later Hoplite Greek) 26/40 vs Lysimachos (Early Achaemenid Persians (b)) 66/49

the sight of the mighty phalanx advance shaking the earth and the tunder of spears banged against the spartan shileds melted the barbarians' hearts and put the persian cavalry to flight towards the hill standing next to their camp, with the phalanx following hard on their heels. the left greek alliance wing endured stubbornly the rain of arrows, waiting for their comrades from their right wing to connect before launching an all out attack on the strong persian defensive position, up atop a small hill.

disobeying orders, some unpatient young blood on the extreme left wing raised the paean and sized the glory dashing forward uphill, trempling under their feets the first persian defence line and crushing into the persian commander's squadron stationed right behind, killing him and most of his guards on the spot. a furious battle ensued over the body of the dead commander, the greeks trying to drag it towards their lines and the persians selflessly throwing away their lives to secure it.

with the barbarians crying out loud their "boldness" atop of the hill, the rest of the greek left wing charged immediatelly, a bitter contest spreading all across southern hill's slopes. blood started to flood thick in waves, neither the persians nor the greeks giving as much as a hairbalde of ground in the life-and-death struggle ensued in there. with heavy casualties on both sides, the stubborn greeks prevailed in the end, slaying most of the persians were they stood and killing their general. seeing their brave leader fallen under the greek spears, the medes' knees melted under them and the great persian host took to flight, with the victorious greeks giving chase and cutting them with the numbers.

thanks for the game, mate. one of the hardest I've ever played (mostly because of my fault, impatiently storming uphill a strong defensive MF mixed Bgs with unsupported and disordered HF).

LoEG Season 3 IF Division A
cothyso (Later Hoplite Greek) 13/40 vs ericdoman1 (Early Achaemenid Persians (d)) 57/53

stumbling out from a mountain pass through a thick fog, the greek alliance army found itself faced with an already deployed persian army falling upon them, howling for their blood. being afraid to not get themselves trapped inside the pass, the greeks had no other choice than to accept the battle. hastly deploying their units into a loose battleline as soon as they emerged from between the rocky jaws of the mountain, the greks pressed forward to meet the persians with great courage, despite of the rocky terrain messing up their ranks.

the right greek alliance's wing, still not completely deployed and trying to keep the pace with the advancing ceter, entered a small wood only to find it swarming with persians, rushing on them from all parts. a fierce fight ensued in here, with the thracians contigents routing the whole persian ambush party, hunting them out of the woods like rabbits and throwing them onto their own left flank, sowing great disorder and confusion through their ranks.

not discouraged by the greeks prompt reaction, the barbarians started an ample encirclement movement, countinuously harrasing the greeks and threating to completely envelop the still trailing behind left greek flank, forcing it to stop and turn about to face them while the persian frontline drawed back a few hundreds of paces, stretching both greek and persian flanks even further, luring the main body of the greek phalanx into the middle of the narrow plain in order to complete the encirclement.

noticing the danger, the greek cavalry contigents turned to their concitizens aid, looking for a soft spot to charge in the already over-streched enveloping persian flank, hoping to break the encirclement. by sheer luck, the left wing persian commander's squadron was observed scouting the left greek flank in a too exposed position, and the greek cavalry charged furiously, slaying many of his bodyguards and puting the fear-blinded persian commander to flight. a huge gap opened in the exposed barbarian flank, now completely seared from their main battle line, and through which the greek cavalry was swarming at a will, unleashing devastating charges against the remnants of the persian right wing and threatening the unshielded flank of the immortals battleline.

in the center, the persian immortals meet the greek phalanx head on. both the greek alliance and the barbarian commanders were going through ranks, encouraging their men and fighting with great courage were the situation was most the desperate. the result hanged in the air for a while, changing sides as gods' favors passed forth from greeks to barbarians and back until the victorios greek right wing finally catched up and, turning at an angle, started to roll up the medes' left flank, triggering the collapse of immortals' battleline and sealing the fate of the battle. seeing that everything was lost, the brave barbarian general throwed himself in the thick of the battle, seeking for a noble death.

LoEG Season 3 IF Division A
cothyso (Later Hoplite Greek) 8/40 vs Triarius (Later Alexandrian Macedonian) 50/41

greek alliance and a macedonian armies, knowing about their immediate vicinity and groping blindly at each other for days, finally caught up in a small plain divided in two by a tree-sided road running from north to south.

the encounter came with a great surprise for the greeks, who were carelessly marching north in two columns, leaving them totally unprepared at the sight of the macedonian phalanx falling upon their left. the left greek marching column stopped dead where it stood and hastly formed a lose battleline preparing to repel the macedonian advance until the spartan right wing could deploy. to make the matter even worse, insolent macedonian light cavalry were shadowing and constantly harrassing the poor spartans running their lungs off while trying to catch up with the rest of the greek alliance battleline.

unusually for them, the macedonians amassed their crack cavalry on the left flank, their sudden appearence from behind the left macedonian wing made the greeks shiver and re-call their already deployed cavalry from their left to the right flank, only to have them sent back after a short while, as the barbarian cavalry didn't showed any intent to press a charge, throwing the greek battleline into confusion and making their deployment a complete and utter mess.

the contact between the greeks centre and the most advanced macedonian units was brutal, a bitter fight ensuing in there between the athenian hoplites and the macedonian battle-hardened hypaspists. the situation soon became desperate, with barbarians gaining the upperhand and the greek alliance generals having to enter themselves into the fray in order to hold the opening gap until the greek left wing could overthrow the macedoniand'right wing and start to roll their phalanx up from its unshielded side.

on the right flank, the brave spartan cavalry throwed itself against the macedonian elite cavalry in a suicidal charge, with orders to pin them long enough for the thracians to catch up and toghether to prevent the barbarian cavalry enveloping the greek right wing or helping their phalanxes' left flank. finally, the spartan hoplites crashed against the macedonian phalanx routing its left wing, opening a huge gap into the barbarians left and turning on the flank of the macedonian pezhetairoi.

with both wings being rolled up, the macedonian centre started to crumble, the greek left wing cavalry pursuing the macedonian peltasts and the right wing thracians, together with the spartan cavalry units, giving a hard day to the macedonian's elite cavalry. Despite the fact that this quickly spread into a full rout, with most of the macedonians units throwing down their spears and shields and running for their lives, some of them, including on of their generals, choose to fight bravely to the bitter end, dying all where they stood, down to the last man.

thanks for the game, Triarius.

There was an accusation of cheating in the tournament which have investigated and have found no evidence.

Cothyso has been declared the winner of the January tournament so congratulations.

To avoid any issues like this in future we're adding a more rigourous logging system to ensure everyone can be 100% sure that the system is secure. This will roll out with the release of Legions Triumphant and will not run any tournaments until this has released just to ensure there are no doubts about the security of the system.

Also because of those accusations, I do not want to retain the prize, I'll pass it to the second place, which was awarded to davouthojo.

I will also not play any multiplayer games until the new security measures announced by Iain will be added into the game, by which time I'll post individual challenges on the boards (which I've already asked to be closely followed by Slitherine), and whomever felt like being cheated, will be free to pick up the challenge, and prove it to himself by beating me to bloody little pieces.

No need to send me one, for in the one game we had I did "beat you to bloody little pieces."

I don't remember the game, even though I've lost some multiplayer games while I was learning and getting used with FoG rules. Also, I am not invincible, no one is, it's just that I've learned a lot in the mean time.

So, if you want, once Iain puts out the new Legions Triumphant pack, together with the new security, you can try to repeat the performance :) I won't play any game until then, because i had enough of this mess already. And if you don't, just don't pick them up, when I was talking about individual challenges I meant un-paswworded paired scenarios or DAG games (when it will be possible) for anyone to pick up (like in no tournaments or anything).

Legions Triumphant beta #01
cothyso (Dacians) 38/38 vs Blathergut (Principate Roman (100-196)) 31/38

A quick head-on clash with dacian MF vs roman superior HF, just to see what a MF line can do. Not good :( I don't understand the lack of dacian HF from the TT lists, it is not so obvious, or historical.
