What about smoke?

Post by JMLiege »

Hello everybody,

I enjoy this game a lot. Very addictive.

Just something is missing from my point of view. The ability to generate smoke (infantery smoke grenades/ artillery/smoke discharger on tanks)
Is it possible for Slitherine to add this feature in the future release :?:

It would change a lot the strategy :!:

Just thinking of this mission where you have to face three Tigers directly, you first troops can just die...With smoke, it will change the survivabilty percentage of such cannoon fooder....

On top of this, you may review the scenarii for less reinforcements and will justify poor accuracy of air attacks...

Best regards,

JMarc from Belgian Ardennes (Houffalize)

Smoke has been brought up several times. I have played games that have it and games that don't. Some have artillery rounds, some add tank rounds, some add infantry rounds/grenades.

The games that don't have it argue that it wasn't widely used in WWII and can be gamey or a crutch for bad design or bad AI.

I was told that the Soviets in WWII used smoke generators or candles on tanks. How would that work in BA?

BA is a less complicated game than some games, would smoke add to the game? Can the AI make use of it?

If the game is going to evolve into other time periods, I think smoke and things like napalm need to be looked at.

My plan for smoke is area smoke. You drop smoke on a tile and it blocks LOS behind it. Units on the tile can be seen but maybe have reduced chance to hit and chance to be hit.

You would place it with mortars. Maybe other units too but primarily mortars.

The issue is we have no system to place objects like smoke/mines etc. That is why its not been done yet.

Very good idea for mortars. What do you think the use of smoke by engineer units, it will help in street fighting.
