Lancer/swordsman POA against steady spears

Post by stevesykes »

I may be wrong about this, but it looks like lancers get the lance poa against steady spearmen at impact and swordsman poa in continuing melee. This is a difference from the TT game. Does anyone know the rationale for this?

Where are you getting that from? I (going from memory) believe lancers get a + in impact if they and target are in open , except vs steady off def spears/ pikes and i believe pacs and chariots and battle wagons (knightly lancers also get a + vs "normal lancers"

They do get the sword poa in melee (assuming they have them!)

TGMs memory is quite right, ordered spearmen does negate the lancers +POA
The chariot exception is only applicable to scythed chariots though.
I've got two words for ya: Math is hard.

Swords do not give a POA against steady pike/spear.

OK I accept that I may have got this wrong, but my impression is that lancers against steady spearmen comes out as even POA; if the lance POA does not apply, shouldn't the spearmen be at +?

Spear would be +1. Assuming no bugs.

Yes
I guess it is the semantics of it all that causes problems.
I look at it like this: calculate what each unit gets and then net it
The lance gets a + POA Except for vs steady spears impact, so it gets none, 0. The spear gets a + poa This nets out to spears + , lancer -. I get confused when people (Deeter :D ) state things like swords cancel spears etc etc) My feeble mind cant handle that
In the end it is correct but harder for me to visualise

I've got this wrong due to misremembering the TT rules; having reread them properly I see that the problem is not with the implementation of the game but with the operator! Early onset senior moment.
