Ignominy - why me?

Post by stockwellpete »

I have just lost a game today by 59 break points to 3! My opponent only needed 44 points to win as well!

What is your worst ever defeat? Don't worry about me - I am seeing my doctor in the morning!

P.S. I was the Persians against the Macedonians.

Ouch! If they were early Persians did you rely on shooting and avoiding melee? Did you hide in rough ground? Later Persians don't have much chance because they are outclassed everyhwere.

They were the Darian army - and they were hiding in their tent mainly! It was not as if I was doing anything extravagant either - but it was just like marching into a giant mincer (the battlefield was largely open ground - nowhere to run, nowhere to hide). Which army can stand up best against the Macedonians then, do you think?

Another pike army, early Spartains, anything shooty. The Darian army has very little to recommend it, but the Early Persians are great.

The Darian army is one of my favorites, but you have to go cav-heavy. You can get 20+ superior armored cav, they can wreak havoc against many armies, especially because your opponent is expecting the usual limp Persian opponent. Difficult win against a pike or spear-heavy army, but I've managed a few times.

Not sure it was the worst defeat I've had (far too many to recall them all *LOL*), but in the Tournament Beta Test I drew pantherboy in the first round.
That was certainly a sobering experience

I think I managed to rout one(!) of his units in that double-game

M worst defeeat:

My Early Armenians (no ally version) vs an early Ptlolemy Greek Pike army

My opponent formed into a giant pike square with all the goodies (mediums, cavalry) tucked inside. He then had a sleeve of light foot surrounding the entire pike square (or atleast on the front and sides)....
Ok, I figured i need to use my light horse archers and the few LF to try and strip away his sleeves of lights (couldnt charge them as they would have evaded and i would have hit pikes....)

So, after 5-6 turns almost all my light horse and lf are disrpted and several fragged from missle combat alone and several are getting quite close to autobreaks.... The Tecio hasnt stiired and i havent done any apreciable damages to the sleeve of light foot, so figured might as well send in the cats, thinking maybe if i alternate charges i can get lucky with a disrupt and maybe just maybe rout a pike unit thru the ranks behind etc .... Didnt happen, as my cats dashed themselves to pieces the tercio unfolded and fresh lancers and mediums poored out and finished the job
I was lucky to get 2 bps vs my opponent in that one....

Most all my battle against pantherboy I have gotten like 5 to 7 bp. O considered it a moral victory when I routed 23 break points last battle. Also an early sarmation army just crushed my galatian army. Think I got 5 BP in that one.

Thank you chaps - at least I am not the only one to get humiliated then! One day the Persians will return and gain revenge against the Macedonians!
