GS CEAW - early 43 system HANGS (over 15 minutes)

Post by denbois »

Help please! SEE THE PROBLEM ENCOUTERED SECTION BELOW:

INTRO:
I recently purchased the CEAW and was pleasantly surprised! Congrats to the developers as I can see that it has really been well thought out! (Had wished that their might have been paratrooper option however)

<<Sincerely>>

I had played a few games and was astonished at how flawlessly the software ran with no hickups or crashes ... then no sooner had I thought these things that I started encountering problems. When I get towards early 1943 I have had and issue of a game lock for over 20 mins and ctrl alt del would not let me regain control. This happened once and I wrote it off to a computer crash.

** PROBLEM ENCOUNTERED:
Then yesterday I had completed 39, 40, 41 and 42 AND AS MY GAME got into 1943 (Feb I think), the combat resolution became slow after the battles on the Russian front. Basically after the Ruskies attack, and battles get resolved, then the game HANGS AND HANGS AND HANGS.

I let the system go for about 20 minutes but still nothing beyond the hourglass! At this stage the Ctrl Alt Del does work and I see that my CPU is constantly hitting 100 % usage! So I killed the java script as I wonder if prolonged 100$ CPU usage can damage the machine. I tried reloading the scenario, but the same keeps on happening.

Please advise as to what I might be doing wrong?? I upgrade from the original electronic download purchase to v1.12 and then v1.06 and also installed the GS version.

** GAME AND VERSION:
NOTE the game I am playing is the CEAW c1.12 GS v1.06

** MY COMP SPECS:
HP Pavilion
AMD XP 2800+
2.08 Ghz
1.00 GB RAM
Home XP SP2

Also NO Viruses or malware detected - just completed full scans.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Denis,

Welcome to the forum. Sorry you're having issues.

Check out: viewtopic.php?p=161832#161832 for how to get information we need to figure what's going on.

A couple of quick things to try first is to turn music and sound off.

Hello RKR (Ronnie?):

Thanks for the super quick response. I went to your link and followed the instructions. I liked the clarity of your response by the way; steps 1-9 were quite clear for me to understand - thank you!

I did turn off the music and sound effects ... oddly it seems to be hanging up on some audio line ... (?) see the attached screen capture. YOu will also see my CPU max's out at 100% for many minutes until I CTRL - C the java call.

I have just tried going back to the previous save and the same thing happens at the same place (post resolution Russian attacks).

Very odd as the 2 previous days it was running very well and I have not changed anything to my machine.

It has now been 100% CPU for nearly 10 mins and the hour glass isnt going away ... WIll cancel it. The Java process reaches about 700,000 KB of memory.

Hope you have some insight ... thanks again for your help
