Varangians question

Post by pptheos »

Varangians in Komnenan Byzantine are Heavy Foot, Drilled, Heavy Weapon.
Is it better to get them as Heavily Armoured Superior, or Armoured Elite?
They cost the same.

Depends who you are fighting. If you are fighting protected troops get the elites. If you are fighting heavy armored types, Heavily armored.

I read somewhere on the TT forum on advice on army construction that:
"If your plan needs Elite troops, you need a different plan"

Sage words.
So I'd go for the armor.
As brave as they may be, valor alone won't stop arrows.

Well, elite units are more usefull than extra armor if your enemy dont have archers and if he has crossbow... more usefull the extra quality. Armor dont give to you an extra 10% of stand time hehehe.

Ummm use elite units as part of a plan only means that you have an idea that need special troops. Plans are good or bad after the battle not in the planning phase because first casualty in a battle is the plan and your alternative plans could need elite units

PD: Bravery dont stop arrows but amor dont made you invulnerable to arrows and give more power to swords
