Opportunity fire from suppressed units

Post by Crestone »

First let me say how much I enjoy the game. I've been playing TBS games going back to Panzergrenadier in the mid-eighties (anyone remember that one? ) and I think BA is really first rate. The fact that the developers seem very open and responsive to the community is really great to see.

My questions are:

1) I've noticed repeatedly that suppressed and retreated AI units will exercise opportunity fire. My understanding is that a suppressed unit is not supposed to fire. Also noticed that in the round in which a unit becomes suppressed it will pop off a final shot (almost always ineffective) before scuttling away.

2) Where can I find stats regarding a unit's sighting capability? It seems clear than some units can see further than others, as shown by the use of the #1 hotkey, but I'd like to know clearly if a recon unit sees further than an infantry unit, etc.

3) I would second the other suggestions previously made regarding the ability to reverse and to fire smoke.

Hope you'll excuse me if this post is not considered a new topic or misplaced -- first time posting.

All the best --

2) The data is in the xls or csv in the data folder.

You can use a windows product to open them or

Get Open Office, a freeware office suite. If you open the csv, a gray window will pop up first. From the dropdown select Unicode 8 and OK.

The xls may open to the French tab. If so, change to the first tab. Info is across the top, units down the side.

Hi there Crestone and welcome to the forums!

1 ) Suppressed Armor will have a last shot before retreating and also opportunity fire sometimes even when suppressed, but with a very big penalty (so almost never hit). That way you still need to think twice before sticking your M5 nose in front of that mighty suppressed Panther...

2) The Infantry Scout units are the best for the job. Not only they can see further (so do other Armor Reccon units as well) but they can also see hidden units from TWO tiles away (very useful units to avoid some nasty ambushes). More details found in J2D post above

3) I highly support the introduction of Reverse for tanks as discussed in some older post and hope it makes it to the game sometime in the near future. Smoke would be nice as well and make mortars even more useful.

Cheers
