Möhner's paintings of Swedish flags

Post by DanielS »

The flags painted by Reginbaldus Möhner are the major source of information as far as Swedish flags of the TYW are concerned. Möhner bit over 200 flags beloning to 13 cavalry regiments, 28 infantry regiments and 5
dragoon units. Some flags were either not completed by Möhner or were very
unfinished when he saw them. It is also likely that several otherwise finished flags had written text which Möhner did not record. Only a part of
Möhner's work has been published, Richard Brzezinski did a good job in getting Osprey to do reconstructions of 8 cavalry regiments, 2
dragoon units and 12 infantry regiments but due to lack of space some of
these were only partial. And of course the focus is the famous units but
that is to be expected.

I will be posting copies made of Möhner's flags on my blogg together with information about the regiment they belonged to. First out is General Johan Baner's regiment of Foot

Here is the next set. Jürgen Ernst von Wedel's regiment of Horse is a personal favourite of mine as far as the design of the cornets is concerned. While not as flamboyant as Tott's I actually find them more interesting due to the rich choice of images on the cornets.
