ZOI Question

Post by plewis66 »

Sorry if this came up before (I looked throuigh the obvious past posts).

A box-out on the diagram on page 14 (v4.04) says 'Note that if a supporting Illyrian BG had been present on this side the cataphracts may not have been able to charge [meaning to intercept] as they may have passed through an enemy ZOI'.

This seems to imply a restriction that is not explicit in the text of the rules, i.e. that it is not permitted to intercept through an enemy ZOI, other than that of the BG being intercepted. Is that the case? If so, it might be nice to have it stated explicitly in the text, as I've only just picked up on it in the diagram.

Also, the ZOI section has just lead me to wonder about the effects of terrain on charge reach. The glossary says 'A battle group is in charge reach if any part of its front edge or a front corner can contact enemy in its normal move distance.' Does 'normal move distance' mean it's move distance in open terrain, or its move distance in the terrain it is in? We've been assuming the latter, but it just occurred to me we might be wrong.

Lastly, I have a confusion with the depth of the ZOI and interceptions (especially if we are not wrong about the above!).

The sixth bullet says 'You move your figures directly forward as far as you want and sufficiently to cross the charge path...'. I'm unsure about the effects of terrain on this. For example, knights in difficult have a ZOI of 4MU (bullet 1), so if someone charges through that ZOI, are they allowed to move forwards 'as far as they want and sufficiently to cross', even though this may involve considerably more movement than they are normally capable of in that terrain? Or does it mean that if you cannot move sufficiently to intercept, then you can't intercept? The latter feels correct logically, but the former seems to be a more direct interpretation of the rule as written.

All redrafted sice then

An intercepting battle group cannot itself be intercepted.
No battleg group can intercept if the subject of a charge
4mu and 2mu are the max intercept moves - terrain and speed permitting. (we need to drop the zone down if movement is less than these numbers in fact)
Intercept move must go directly forwards up to the limit in order to interfere with an enemy charge
