When to Bolster?

Post by Anleiher »

A friend in our group asked that I post this question for him:

"Here is a question about the Joint Action Phase. On pg 37 of the FoG rules it indicates that a turn is divided into five phases and one of these phases is the Joint Action Phase. On pg 38 it says that the Joint Action Phase occurs at the end of the of each players turn but doesn't belong to either player. At first I though this clearly said that the Joint Action Phase was part of the players turn but after some discussions I see that there could be some ambiguity between the rules as written on these two pages. Do the rules on pg 38 mean that the Joint Action Phase is at the end of the player's turn but still within the turn or do they mean that it is at the end, meaning just after the players turn? I still feel like it means that it's part of the players turn but I'm interested to know how others are interpreting these rules."

Advice please?

Both players can act itn the JAP. Both can move commanders, both can bolster, both sides routers rout, both sides have to break off if required etc.

James,

Thank you for the quick response. I believe what he is asking could be phrased thusly, "If a unit in the melee phase of turn 1 fails a CT and drops to DISRUPTED, can that same unit be BOLSTERED in the Joint Action Phase of turn 1?

We are trying to determine just when a turn ends, i.e. phase 4 or phase 5 of a given turn.

Thanks

If a BG loses cohesion in player A's part of turn 1 it cannot be bolstered in the JAP at the end of player A's turn. It can be bolstered in the JAP at the end of player B's turn 1 assuming it does not lose more cohesion.

Put another way no BG can be bolstered in the JAP immediately after it lost cohesion.
