Severe Winter Border

Post by _Augustus_ »

Hi all,

This is a very basic question but I can't find the exact answer using the forum or manual or GS manual pdf search function. What is the exact hex border of the severe winter and border behind which Axis troops need to be behind of not to suffer the SW penalties when the SW hits?

I believe it hits only in original USSR, right? Including the Baltic countries?

What about the USSR invaded Polish hex? Where is the border for SW over there?

Thanks you for a possbile quick reply,

The manual says that "units occupying USSR core hexes will suffer a winter penalty" So I assume hexes owned by the USSR before Germany DOWs USSR are core hexes. You can also tell once severe winter hits by selecting on hexes column by column to see the demarcation line between SW and winter hexes, which isn't much help when you are trying to avoid being caught on the wrong side of that line.

And you could just run a hot-seat game, say the 1941 scenario, and wait until SW hits then check the hexes. You just have to hit end turn a few times with out doing anything ;-)

 I did realize this, but I guess I was being lazy and hoping someone would remember this from top of their head and I save the 15min. Oh well.

Okay just in case someone else is wondering about this, too. Maybe a starting player who can't find the info either. I believe the SW EFF penalty only occurs in the hexes that have USSR marked as their nationality. So no EFF penalty in the Baltic countries and so on. And no penalty for the eastern Polish hexes either.

Yeah ... I see. I've deleted the link in both his posts and informed Iain. After Iain has a chance to see his posts and take appropriate action, I'll delete his post so we can keep these threads clean.
