General feedback

Post by timeout »

Hey,
enjoying the game very much! Beautifully simple interface and just fun...

Just some general comments and questions:

1. Would it be possible to get more information about a unit within the game? Basically it would be nice if, for example, by right-clicking on the unit icon I could open a small table that give all info that defines that unit: Armour on sides/top/rear, move-points, range, sight...

2. Would it be possible to get a little bit more info about air and artillery strikes when hovering over the icon? Is there a strength for these attacks? Would be nice to compare the different special attacks.

3. When I finished a mission successfully I don't see any indication of that apart from when opening the campaign it scrolls automatically to the next unfinished mission. What about a small star or something somewhere in the corner of the mission select screen to indicate the mission was finished? And it would also be nice if it would indicate if the mission was finished with all achievements.

4. Is there somewhere an explanation on how the game calculates probabilities to hit and penetrate and probabilities that a unit is able to react? It is good that that isn't in the game but it would be nice to get a bit more in depth knowledge of that somewhere here in the forum (or is there something on that already?).

I have no clue about marketing but my thoughts on if you want the game to sell well:
- put together a nice trailer with some of the cool comic art and some scenes from the different environments of the game.
- make a demo with the tutorial levels and one proper level (perhaps change tutorial setting to winter as desert is a bit bland)
- put it on steam! I just stumbled upon the game by pure luck... I am sure there are a lot of people out there who would like it but are not into war games in general (like myself) and therefore unlikely to take note...

Anyway, great game!

Cheers

Glad you are enjoying the game :). And thanks for taking the time to give such detailed feedback.

Most of the extra info ideas are already on my todo list, but it's a pretty long list! But we are working through it was quickly as we can! Being able to (say) SHIFT+Right Click a unit to show the info panel would be very cool. Not sure that there is a sensible scale for the bonus attacks though.

If you really want to dig down into how the game calculates the combat mechanics, then you can see all the various goings-on by taking a look at the scripts (the actions are in DATA\BATTLE\SCRIPTS and the utility scripts are in DATA\SCRIPTS). There is a lot going on for sure, but that is the surest way to see how the range brackets, armour facings, etc have been blended together by Iain :).

We're also working on a demo, but we want to make sure it grabs people immediately, so watch this space! :)

Looking forward to hearing any thoughts you might have once you get to play online ;).

Cheers

Most of our community are happy to give tips and hints if you tell them you're just starting out. There are always a wide range of abilities out there. But I do know that it can be addictive, from what I have seen here in Slitherine Towers :)

Cheers
