What IS that dragoon carrying?

There is one Warlords mounted dragoon (firing musket to his left as he rides) with some sort of 'thing' on his back right hip/thigh. It looks like it has a wing? Any idea what it is?

One of the infamous "winged dragoons?" I hear they were fearsome.

Most dragoons are winged, apart from Chinese ones.

ehehe...I still can't quite make it out, but I painted it white, so, hopefully a chicken. Another dude turns out to have a rabbit hanging from his saddle. :) So that means the poodle's dodged two bullets so far...
