Great Moravian

Post by gozerius »

Frankish ally, or Magyar ally?

The army itself is about as milqtoast as you can get, with no exceptional troop types. The only way to spice it up is with an ally. Lancers or shooty horse? That is the question.

Defend your position.

Lancers. It already gets a lot of shooty cav, IIRC.

Lancers.

1) The Leignitz and Carrhae deniers are going to eventually bay until mobile missile troops are rendered as ineffectual as they were in more primitive rules sets, which favored the more primitive troop types. For this reason, the shooty horse will be a waste.

2) Also, while there are Magyar figures out there, the selection is not a good as it is for Franks from the Migration Period through the Dark Ages.

3) You will have the nucleus for a Frankish army, which has a nice component of drilled troops in it - not common in period and in theater. You will tire of the milquetoast, and at least then you will have a base to build something else from.
