Grrrrr

Post by Scrumpy »

A unit of pasty faced Spanish Dragoons cowering in an enclosed field dared to duel it out with a unit of my Scots mercenaries in a Later Dutch army tonight.

The cowering paltroons shot 3 times, each time scoring but 1 hit, cue 3 death throws of 1 and an auto broken shot & pike unit.

Damn rules, dice, throwing action etc etc etc :D

So the lesson is to not underestimate those sneaky dragoons??? I havent painted mine up yet and Blathergut has some, might have to keep my distance from them.

That and don't throw 1s !

Thoroughly enjoyed our game last night, ended in an honourable draw, and a chance to go home re-read the rules and e-mail each other on the things we got wrong. The cavalry melee seemed to accurately depict the fights of the time, and average cavalry are poo, too easily shot up by artillery to be of little or no effect as frontline troops, although good as supports for the superiors.

As an aside, could we have a sticky on 'Things that are different from a&m' please for the ewer players ?

Some I have noticed are

1) Overlaps fight in 1 rank only
2) No +2 on death rolls if shot at my a majority of gunpowder weapons
3) No support shooting

I'm sure others have some to add too.

Scrumpy,

Overlaps only get 1 die not fight in 1 rank.

This is a subtle distinction as determined horse, chevaliers and gendarmes get 2 die per base in front rank but only 1 die in overlap.

Ah I see, we got it wrong, ah well we played it fair across the board all night, so we know for next time.

Cheers

looks like Sunday will see the Dog loving Royalists taking on the animal hating and evil misguided Parliamentarians for our initial foray into FOG R. Blathergut ended up with 2 copies of the rules and army lists, mine are still on the dog sled lost somewhere out there...... not sure I will be mail ordering from Chapters in the future.
Hopefully all the animal lovers out there will be thinking thoughts of defeat for Parliament and grand victorious thoughts for Boye..... and his army.

I wrote a long list of differences for my own use, especially the things that seemed hard to remember. It is more of a bullet point reminder than an explanation of each point. I'll post it if the authors have no objection.
