Which countries spawn partisans

I am a little confused but thought to check this with people more knowledgable.

Can you please confirm which countries spawn partisans and which don't.

For example I know no Norwegian, low countries and Baltic states spawn partisans but does this then include Sweden?

The same goes for if partisans spawn in Turkey and other countries(Switzerland for instance, Portugal).

At the same time I don't think that partisans should spawn in Iraq If this is ever taken by axis as this was very pro German.

Some definitive clarification would be appreciated.

Hi,

As far as Iraq the British and Russians performed a coup at the beginning in the war to oust the pro-german faction of the government.

So it basically was with the allies. Also the southern supply route to Russia ran through there.

Actually the low countries can spawn partisans if they are in the game long enough before surrender. So I am sure that Iraq and Iran will spawn partisans.

Sweden, Spain, Turkey, France, UK, USA, Russia, Yugoslavia, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, and then as the allies advance Italy, Germany, the
Axis minors will spawn partisans.

Ok - but in all my games I have never seen a partisan in Norway - and with all that bad terrain they should be popping up all the time - similarly to Greece, Yugoslavia or Spain. Also I have never seen a partisan in a AAR in the Nordics.

With regards ti Iraq - why would a population not overly enthusiastic to the allies spawn partisans? - I believe there was throughout the war a subversive element against the allies in Iraq - not big enough to justify partisans but why would they suddenly form partisan units against the axis - this doesn't make sense to me.

I think partisans spawn in Norway, Iraq and Iran only if these countries did not surrender. After a surrender I have never seen any partisan unit for these three countries. Turkey, Spain, Yugoslavia and Greece spawn partisans even after surrendering. I'm not sure about Switzerland, Ireland and Portugal.

Most of Major Countries spawn partisans if they surrender as far as I now, with the exception of Italy. I'm also not sure about Bulgaria, Hungary, Finnland and Romania.

I too would be most interested in knowing the partisan details discussed.Judging from general.txt file there are three classes of countries and partisans. Major, large minor and small minor countries. Would someone in the know be kind enough to list which countries belong to which class? And which of the classes spawn partisans even after they have been conqured?

Stauffenberg, I bow in gratitude for your post. This is very good info to share with all of community IMHO. For example I see I have protected some wrong cities and areas in my games so far

I (as a Finn) noticed Finland isn't among the countries who spawn partisans after surrending. I'm sure the team have put a lot of thought into which countries should be on the list and I'm not aware what are the actual criteria to be included to the list. I'm sharing the following just in case the team wasn't aware of the following facts.

Finnish army executed an operation of decentralized storing of arms in caches around the country after the signing of Moscow Armistice in '44. These were to be used for guerrilla warfare in the case USSR decided to occupy the country despite the armistice. English language Wikipedia entry is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weapons_Cache_Case. The English language Wikipedia entry doesn't have the proper citation for the number soldiers to be armed from the caches. The Finnish entry does have the citation to arm up to 35,000 combatants.

Personally I have no reservation whether a similar operation would had been executed or not should had the Finnish front crumbled and the sickle&hammer had flown over Helsinki during the WWII.

Well I am not so sure about the FInnish.

As Finland in most instances surrenders in 43/44 that seems close enough to me in terms of the agreement reached with the USSR. I am happy either way with this.

I would however say that the Irish should definably get partisans after conquest - look at the trouble they still give the english now and this is long after independance. There are still splinter terrorist groups.

I think they have proved that they should still get partisans.
