My first Late Restauration Portuguese

Post by pippohispano »

These guys belong to the elite Terço da Armada, depicted after 1664 when it started to be outfited in green jacket with yellow cufs.
The figures are a mix of Essex, Minifigs and converted figures.
The flags is based on contemporary Portuguese flags and on the flag of the Regimento da Armada Real, the successor of the Terço.

Very cool. Are you going to paint the front of the bases?

I can never get my pictures to turn out worth a crap.

Thanks guys!

The bases are from Litko, I think. They are gona stay brown (I like'em that way).

If you want to take a good picture, use good light (natural light works just great!) and the Macro or Super Macro of your camera. Keep the camera real steady, use the temporizer and... good shot!

When I have more units ready I'll post the pictures.

I mean the lip of the bases where you can still see the lines. I primer the bases black before I start, and after doing my basing I paint the sides dark brown, though green or tan would probably work fine.

I always thought leaving the lips unpainted made the base look unfinished

By “lip” you mean those mid brown-dark brown-mid brown lines in the base’s side, right? I will keep them as they are. I like the look of it. But green, tan or black also works just fine.

As soon as I get my order from Essex I’ll post some more pictures. It will take time though. I'm not a fast painter...

Yeah, that is what I was referring to as the lip. Well the paint jobs look great.

I actually got a phone call from a buddy on my post, as he knows me better than I know myself, saying that what I was trying to communicate probably came through rude. If it did that was not my intention.

I don't think it looks bad, more just unfinished as you can see where the wood has been pressed together. At the end of the day it's all about what you like in your army though. I'm doing 10mm, but basing them with the same # of models as 15mm. I'm sure some will think it looks bad, but when I was putting models on the bases I thought it looked pretty damn good so I kept it that way.

I figure at the end of the day the only thing that matters is that we are happy with our individual efforts in our painting, and we have fun playing. Sorry again if I came across as my usual charming self

For picture taking I found it worked well to set the camera up on a mini tripod then set the timer to actually take the picture. That way there is no movement when the button is pushed, as macro setting will blur easily with the smallest ammount of movement.

Nice paint job by the way

No problem, bud, I didn't thought you're rude :D We were discussing aesthetics, nothing else. And like you say, in the end it's just about if you like ir or not.

Keep up with the good work!
