Lurkio - what next
As the Sassanid range comes to a close, my thoughts are turning to my next range. My options are so far -
Carolingians and Frankish kingdoms
African armies of the dark ages
Maurikian Byzantines
the Byzantine seem the most obvious as opponents for the Sassanids
Thoughts?
thanks

Dark Age African armies would be my choice. Seems that there are a sufficient number of Byzantine ranges already.

Generic dark ages armored and unarmored cavalry suitable as Goths, Franks, and Lombards are always useful.
Renaissance would probably be very popular now.
Personally, I have always hoped for high quality range of medieval Persian cavalry based on Heath's WRG Armies of the Middle Ages V.2 and Osprey's Timerlane books.

IMO, this would be the smart play since they could be useful for so many periods - Ancients/Medieval, Renaissance, and in a pinch SYW. Very little out there (in fact I'm struggling to think of any besides MM/Essex.

putting the arg into argumentative, except for the lists I check where there is no argument!

Both Essex and Museum Miniatures have nice nice ranges, but they are not really complete or compatible. Ideally I would like at least six different armored horse archers & three lancers (both with a variety of armored and unarmored horses), and supporting foot and artillery. Stretching the time period many figures could be used from 1300-1800, and could be used as Turks, Persians, and Moghuls.Seconded!

You know, I had never thought of the Bosporan lancers being Roman influenced. Usually influence is seen to travel from outside the empire to in - e.g. Vegetius saying Roman cavalry had improved by adopting Goth, Alan and Hunnic equipment.
Anyone got any images, I'd be interested to see what is being suggested?
