Swiss Pike as determined foot....
In the description of Determined foot it mentions Swiss Pike as an example, and the French starter army in the rule book has a BG of them. I'm guessing there are not any in the Wars of Religion book? If not what book will the Swiss be in as determined foot and what lists?
I'm guessing it was an earlier tactic that was replaced by pike and shot?

Not really, they just became less determined.BeansNFranks wrote:In the description of Determined foot it mentions Swiss Pike as an example, and the French starter army in the rule book has a BG of them. NM I'm a freaking hot chocolate drinking Moron who stayed up way to late reading the rulebook and was thinking Swedes when I saw Swiss. I need a helmet and a cork on the end of my fork when eating applesauce...rbodleyscott wrote:Not really, they just became less determined.BeansNFranks wrote:In the description of Determined foot it mentions Swiss Pike as an example, and the French starter army in the rule book has a BG of them. Early Royalist pikemen can be determined foot as an option for the Cornish foot. That's one occurrence of them in the WoR book They are mixed in with MF shot. Still got to work out what that means in reality though.

It means they cost an extra point for no benefit unless you detch the shot.mellis1644 wrote:Early royalist pikemen can be determined foot as an option for the Cornish foot. However, FWIIW, I came second at Britcon with a Cornish Royalist army with those Determined Foot, and I did not detach them once.
If you want to take a wacky army, you have to take the rough with the smooth - in this case 14 points wasted on Determined Foot pike bases plus being restricted to Musket* and only 1 BG of Cavaliers allowed to be Superior.
Despite these restrictions, it was an effective and fun army to use.

Do they go slightly faster in bad terrain? DF and MF both going faster than normal pikemen.rbodleyscott wrote:It means they cost an extra point for no benefit unless you detch the shot.mellis1644 wrote:Early royalist pikemen can be determined foot as an option for the Cornish foot. No, because MF don't go faster than normal pikemen in FOGR.LambertSimnel wrote:Do they go slightly faster in bad terrain? Isn't it just in the open that normal pikemen can match MF? I thought that in Uneven terrain HF+MF would move 2MU, DF+MF would move 3MU and DF+DF would move 4MUs.rbodleyscott wrote:No, because MF don't go faster than normal pikemen in FOGR.LambertSimnel wrote:Do they go slightly faster in bad terrain? And DF + MF or DF + DF move 3MUs in Rough terrain.
Particularly annoying as I moved my DF+MF through uneven/rough terrain at 2 MU per turn in more than one battle at Britcon. Doh.
That is quite a significant advantage of the Cornish (if you remember it) and certainly worth 2 points per BG.
