Stockport Pick'n'Mix theme or no theme
I am still undecided on themeing or not for the Pick'n'Mix
If you are intending coming please let me know which you prefer.

No, it means any army can be brought but if a player would prefer their games to be more 'themed' then they can bring a pair of armies, one for each theme and then use whichever one their opponent has brought with them.philqw78 wrote:Surely before 1150 and after 1150 is the same as anything goes.
I would vote for before 1150, if it existed, see if Armd knights are as bad as everyone says.
Much like in Flames of War tournaments some comps allow players to bring an Axis and an Allied army so that all their games will be Axis vs Allied.

I could do a fair few, to say the least.
Perhaps we should see if we can get about 40 armies together and just get a random army every round. I could do 10 and bring them. More would cause transport problems. So I suppose I could bring 10 different ones on sunday.

We just need a list of interesting matched armies. And to make enough distinct pairs.
Off the top of my head I can do
Norman v Anglo Dane
Byzantine v Arab Conquest
Hittite v NKE
Principate v Parthian
Foederate v Picts
EAP v Classical Indian or Hoplite Greek
Chines Norhtern Dynasty v Steppe Nomad

Matched pairs is I think a really good idea but I am not sure if it is viable for this year, it might not be to everyone's taste either.
There is a really nice format that the Finns use for DBM where all the games are preset based on historical encounters and most are not equal points per side. Players scores are then compared to other players who played the same side in the same battle with maximum points going to whoever did best even if best was losing fairly badly as opposed to very badly.
At the moment I feel that I am not going to have a theme. I could however allow players who wish to to bring a historical opponent for thier army and then give players the option of playing the historical matchup or play using their main armies.

Just a little point Hammy
If people are able to choose which army to use in each round if they bring 2 isn't there the risk they would use the one most suited to the task at hand?
I think matched pairs would be difficult for my son as I am going to try and get him used to one army for this competition.
But go with the majority and I'll do what I can.

If people could indeed choose between two armies then they would get a benefit. The two army idea was that if there were two themes that a player could bring an army for each theme then if they are drawn against a player with only one army they play against that army with the army that they have brought for that theme. As a result all thier games would be played in theme using one or other of their armies.Robert241167 wrote:Just a little point Hammy

In Flames of War (WWII) comps I often take a German and a Russian army so that if I am drawn against a player with Germans, Italians, Finns, Hungarians or Rumanians I use the Russians, otherwise I use the Germans. I do this because some comps allow it and I really don't like playing Germans against Germans or Russians against British.
The matched pairs idea would be entirely optional. Players could bring a pair of armies with one of them being their primary army and the other a historical opponent. At the start of each game if both players agree then the game would be played with the historical opponents, otherwise it would just be an anything goes game.
I think from all that has been said so far and the voting (what there is) that the best option for this year at least is to run it as an open event.philqw78 wrote:I think you need to make a decision and stop dithering Hammy. Have some crates and pick something. Something most people are very bad at.

So, is that a decision, or another dither?hammy wrote:I think from all that has been said so far and the voting (what there is) that the best option for this year at least is to run it as an open event.
