Bogged down bug?

When I get a bogged down unit the game seems to take a while (5 - 20 seconds) to show the message and in the meantime the screen judders - as if program is looping with a screen refresh function in the loop. Is it just me?

Glad to hear I'm not the only getting stuck in the mud. Now just need to figure out why I get the special screen treatment - need to keep a note of when it does and does not happen.
