PBEM Game is in Russian, but I speak English

I receive the first turn PBEM moves from a Russian Player, but when I load the game, all names and messages are in Russian (Cyrillic)--which it total nonsense to me. Is there a way I can play in English while he plays in Russian?

Are you playing the vanilla game or the GS expansion? And if the latter, are the messages in Russian only the initial ones at the beginning of your turn? And after they play, is everything else in English?

Thanks for your response. I am playing GS 1.06. There is a mix of English and Russion. Most of the initial messages are in Russian. The map is entirely in Russian except for "Rail Cap". The resources panel is in English. The Produce Units screen is in English. The Research screen is is Russian except for the summary at the top. The options screen is in English. I suppose it's playable, but confusing.

this is the same for other languages, I guess the originating game language setting passes through some parameters

I think the problem is that CeaW stores the map and other parameters into the save file. The first save made creates the map with units etc. Since it was initially stored in Russian it means the game will retrieve Russian values when you load your game.

This is rather fundamental to CeaW and quite a job to change. So we didn't do that for GS.

I propose that all people playing GS should use English unless both players are familiar with another language chosen.

I am playing a pbem game against a German opponent and have the same problem, except, of course, everything is in German (not Russian). I tried different things, but nothing worked, should have looked here 1st I guess, would have saved me some bother. It is odd that some things are in German, but other things are in English. It is annoying, but the game is still playable.
