Protected shot
A tactical question for you.
Do pike count as protecting shot if they are in corner to corner contact with shot ? ie
shot shot shot front
shot pike shot rear
Or do the 3 front rank shot count as unprotected v opponents ?

In HtH they will count as Protected (see later), as this is the norm for late C17th infantry formations - note that in close combat (to the front) the pike base "jumps" to the front rank thus giving "protection" as per page 173 of the rules.

Just a difference in implementation.Scrumpy wrote:Always amazes me how the Swiss pikes took steroids to improve their march speed around 1500 AD and not before.
Did they get faster, or did the rest get slower ?
FOGR is not FOGAM. It covers a much shorter period, so has more room for period specific rules. If the same level of period specificity was attempted in FOGAM, the rulebook would be huge.
There is nothing to stop battles of the Swiss-Burgundian war (for example) being played under FOGR if that is preferred, although it is strictly before the start date of the rules (but only by 20 years).
In fact I recommend it.

So do I.
If the Swiss get in contact they can deal out a world of pain. Usually the faster marching speed just gets them into range of shooty things sooner...
Against Burgunians who have less shooting, now that gets to be more fun.
RBS,
Any chance of getting Slitherine to post official Burgundian Wars FoG:AM to FoG:R companion list conversions on the site?

Perhaps there will be a sixth book, or better yet a free pdf, with point costs for the 15th century armies which can be played using FOGR.rbodleyscott wrote: There is nothing to stop battles of the Swiss-Burgundian war (for example) being played under FOGR if that is preferred, although it is strictly before the start date of the rules (but only by 20 years).

Do you think a fan-made spreadsheet would be acceptable to Slitherine/Osprey, if it avoids the armies to be published?
