When I received my copy of the rules (first week of Jan, though I thin they were mailed last week of December), the email said that 'these are the version of the rules that will be used at Usk', and the attachment included version 4.04. I get the impression from this list that 4.06 is going to be used at Usk.
Now, I can't attend Usk, so it's not too much of a problem in that regard, but if I'm supposed to be using 4.06, then perhaps someone should know that I'm not!?
I read the post about not inundating people with new versions, but as this is the first version I've had, that doesn't really apply in my case...
Which Version

Must admit it is getting harder to make constructive comments to the list at the moment as I am working with 4.04 which is clearly quite different from 4.06 with new phrases such as battlefield initiative etc appearing. Is it worth non Usk players continuing to play with an outdated set at this time?

Actually, what was being talked about was "Pre-Battle Initiative", which I thought was in 4.04. (It is certainly in Version 4.03 - in Appendix 5).marshalney2000 wrote:Must admit it is getting harder to make constructive comments to the list at the moment as I am working with 4.04 which is clearly quite different from 4.06 with new phrases such as battlefield initiative etc appearing. Don't panic. 4.06 is not very different from 4.04. It contains a few rules changes from 4.04, but since then the rules writers have moved on from 4.06 too - which is going to make umpiring Usk a challenge!
Our publication schedule is such that we cannot halt work for several weeks while each version is play-tested. The rules will never stand still until they are published. You will always be testing a version that is not perfectly up-to-date. This does not make testing any less valuable because the vast majority of the points raised still apply.
4.06 was issued as a quick snap-shot of the state of the rules prevailing a couple of weeks before army lists had to be in for Usk, so that the players had a fixed target to enable them to choose their army lists. As the rules have to be individually fingerprinted for each person, which is quite a major task given the number of signed up play-testers, the 4.06 snapshot was only sent to the Usk competitors.
You can rest assured that the next update (which will have moved on from 4.06) will go to all active play-testers. We are only delaying it so as not to confuse the Usk players or nobble their armies!
In the meantime, please keep on play-testing and posting your comments.
