Saladin's eagle

Post by Scrumpy »

I have a couple of General's bases spare without any flags, and wanted to use one of them to portray Saladin for an Ayyubid army. I read on Brendan Moyle's site that the Ayyubid's used yellow flags, but also I read that Saladin's eagle standard was a golden eagle.

Anyone know what colour field it would have had ? Or even better is there a website with a picture of it on ?

Cheers

dear scrumpy,
taken from wikipedia:
"The eagle as a symbol of Saladin is disputed by archeologists. The symbol of an eagle was found on the west wall of the citadel of Cairo (constructed by Saladin), and so is assumed by many to be his personal symbol. There is, however, little proof to defend this. It was subsequently adopted as a symbol of Arab nationalism by Iraq, Palestine, and Yemen (and formerly by Libya)"

Nowadays saladin's eagle is on the coat of arms of Egypt, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_Egypt

even if you search on google the arab terms: عقاب صلاح الدين الأيوبي you'll find only the modern version

ciao
