Hi
Query.
If a unit of cavalry/knights in line makes a 90' turn, does it end up in a single base column ?
If the same unit now make another 90' turn does it revert to a single base line or a two deep formation ?

6 bases = 180mm deep which is more than 4 bases (160mm) so they actually end up 5 wide with one in the second rank.guthroth wrote:Ok, got that now.

If a column of 6 cavalry stands turns through 90 degrees, does the formation become 4 in the front rank and 2 in the rear or two ranks of 3 stands ?![]()

So, 6 elements of cavalry in single line turn 90 degrees
= results in a column 1 element wide and 6 deep
This column turns back 90 degrees
= results in 5 elements in the front rank with 1 in the second rank
This formation turns back 90 degrees
= results in a double column with 2 in front rank and 2 each in the second and third ranks.
This formation turns again 90 degrees
= results in a double line with 3 in front rank and 3 in second rank
Thereafter the double line interchanges with the double column for each successive 90 degree turn
So, once you have turned 90 degrees from a single line and then turned back, you are trapped in a double column/line and the only way back to single line is by expansion.
Seems a bit harsh ...
