More ?? on Dragoons
1. Do they start as mounted and dismount at some point? Or do they stay in their dismounted form for the entire battle?
2. The Warlord Dragoons comes with 12 mounted and 12 foot. Can I use the mounted versions as another BG of Horse of some sort?

Re: More ?? on Dragoons
The latter. They are supposed to have a couple of horses and a horse holder on the base with the dismounted dragoons. However, they are on a distinctive sized base, so I don't suppose anybody will be too strict about that.Blathergut wrote:1. Do they start as mounted and dismount at some point? Yes, although if I recall the look of the figures on the box they will make a fairly disreputable BG of horse.2. The Warlord Dragoons comes with 12 mounted and 12 foot. Can I use the mounted versions as another BG of Horse of some sort?

Which would mean that they would only really be suitable (at a pinch) for some Parliamentary Harquebusier horse.Blathergut wrote:Thanks!
The more disreputable the better!![]()
Hopefully there's something in the NMA/Parliamentary lists to fit!!
The mounted dudes all have muskets of one flavour or another, mostly shooting them or holding them.

There are no LH in ECW armies - except Mosstroopers in Scots armies. But you only get 4 bases, and they should probably be depicted as lancers.deadtorius wrote:I had thought about using mine for light horse, unless there are no light horse in ECW armies
Parliamentary armies can have some Poor Unarmoured Carbine/Pistol Horse from 1643, at the bargain price of 7 points each. Make good supports for Average troops, and the figures would probably do OK for them.
They would be fine for Unarmoured Bandellier Reiter in a 30YW German army.

BTW, I would assume that the Warlord firelocks may actually work for dragoons, if based correctly of course. So if your short of dismounted dragoon's that may be an option. A horse on the base is always cool for dragoons though.
The use of riding boots was the only real difference between dragoons and normal foot. They used matchlock initially or as the war went on more advanced lock muskets (not carbines) so the length was the same as foot. From the web it seems the Warlord plastic firelocks could, with the correct paint job to make them look like they are waring boots work for ECW period dragoons.
I have not seen the figs in real life but this is an assumption from the picture below.

The ECW lists are allowed 6 dragoons. However, BGs of 3 are rather vulnerable (to cohesion tests) and you may well be better off with just the one BG of 4.Blathergut wrote:Am good. I have the 12 dismounted figures 3-to-a-base plus a horse or two per base. So 4 bases of dragoons to start. Just about have them finished. (Just don't look tooooo closely at the horses!)

Have people been running them in 2paks? How have they worked? I'll assume one unlucky death roll and poof! Can they shoot two ranks deep with those 60mm depth bases? They move like Horse?rbodleyscott wrote:The ECW lists are allowed 6 dragoons. Not seen them in twos threes yes, people though they suffered with the test required with one hit so don't know about BGs in 2's.Blathergut wrote:Have people been running them in 2paks? 2s are probably better than 3s, but the only lists that allow them are ones that don't have more than 4 dragoons in total. We don't want dragoon swarms!Blathergut wrote:Have people been running them in 2paks? How have they worked? I'll assume one unlucky death roll and poof! They only shoot 1 rank deep.

Well there isn't one in FoG:AM either, they are allowed if the army list specifically allows them - although they are only 9's
FoG:R lists specify which BGs can be odd numbers.
