Injuring Leaders

Post by _Augustus_ »

Hi all,

This is one more of those questions that I'm sure all the old-hands know but a newbie can only find out playing ton of games. Or ask here :)

When is it possible for a leader to get injured?

I KO'd an unit with a leader and the leader got injured. Is it automatic or is there a chance a leader won't get injured if it's unit is knocked out?

Can a leader get injured if its unit it attacked but not destroyed? If this is the case I can imagine a situation where you might bomb a unit with a leader and hope you might get lucky if you don't have other high priority targets.

Thanks,

From my experience, which is much less than the more experienced hands, is that leaders can be injured by either destroying the unit they are attached to or forcing it to retreat. Not sure if there is a percentage chance of their avoiding injury when retreating, but my guys always go on R and R when their unit retreats. The amount of time on R and R can vary widely.

Thank you for the reply.

But there is no one with a concrete knowledge on how this works out there?

To repeat gchristie's answer, a leader is injured if the unit it is attached to is destroyed or if that unit is forced to retreat. Since bombing a unit will not force a unit to retreat you cannot injure a leader by bombing a unit unless you completely destroy it.

The bombing part was the part I was the most after. Thanks. Althought I almost certain I witnessed a unit with a leader pushed back without an injury to a leader recently... Well I guess someone needs to devote the time to investigate this further. Or something.

If that's true I'd like to have that confirmed because I thought that a leader attached to a unit forced to retreat was injured 100% of the time.

Check. I'll PM you shortly regards a hotseat save I keep repeating the pushed back but not injured leader with.

Greetings all,

Ronnie asked me to post the results of my tests onto the forum. The testing was done by loading the save, attacking by the German unit located in Brussels towards South, choosing End Game, reloading and so on. The test was run under game showing 1.12 and 1.06 for the version on the game's main menu.

The results were, where the syntax is: Trial number - Pushback(Y/N) - Injury(Y/N).

01-N-N
02-Y-Y
03-Y-N
04-Y-Y
05-Y-N
06-Y-Y
07-Y-N
08-Y-Y
09-Y-N
10-N-N
11-Y-N
12-N-N
13-N-N
14-Y-N
15-N-N
16-Y-N
17-Y-N
18-Y-N
19-Y-N
20-N-N

Out of 20 loaded saves my results show 14 pushbacks. Out of those 14 pushbacks only 4 showed an injury to the French leader and 10 out of the 14 the leader was uninjured.

If the general concensus is(which it might be judging by the response or lack of on the forum) that pushback equals an injured leader my results are most peculiar/abnormal. My results on that particular save and situation show 10 out of 14 intances the leader was not in injured if pushed back.

If you wish to run a similiar test and report the results please PM me with your email address and I'll email you back with the save to use.

Sincerely,

-antti
