Filling in gaps

Post by marshalney2000 »

During last nights game we got into a debate as to when casualty gaps from death rolls takes place. Is it for example in the next movement phase of each players turn. In essence creating a situation where if you take a loss in the impact phase of your opponent then you would be a figure down in the subsequent melee phase.
On a different note, a unit of mine was hit in the flank by skirmishers and turned two figures to face. I stood and presumed that in my subsequent movement phase, I could expand on one flank of the turned figures to gradually increase my force facing the flanking attack.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Bases are lost as soon as the death roll takes place - so this is usually immediately after the relevant coehsion test. If you start 1 base deep and lose a base in impact you are indeed a base down in melee unless you have troops available to fill the gap. IF you want to give me a specific or two you are worried about I am happy to help.

Yes you turn your troops and in your own next movement phase you would aling to him (i.e. become a column) and can then expand. So you should end up with 1 enemy dice vs 2 dice at impact so little risk really but rthey might force a test if they win 1-0, 2 vs 2 in melee round in his bound assuming he was 2 wide 2 deep, then in your round as long as nothing has gone to awry you get your own back with 4 dice to his 2 once expanded. Usually the skimishers come a cropper unless supported by soemthing to hit you with frontally. But it does b***er up your battle line.

Hope that makes sense. There is a set of diags for this coming together.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Simon thankyou for your comments.
Accept your comments that gaps are created immediately by a death roll but are these also filled immediately if figures are available to slide over or does this have to await a movement phase. I suspect from the wording of your response that this happens immediately if figures are available.
