Axis supply in Northern Africa

Post by Plaid »

What are the actual borders of the zone, where axis should use this supply points to keep their units?
What about Iraq and Persia, axis units there still use this limits?

Also another question about axis northern africa - axis minor units. They have same supply cost, as germans?

Axis minors play the same cost as Italy (lower than Germany). Syria, Persia and Iraq are also affected by North African supply unless Ankara is Axis controlled. Then the Axis is supposed to have a rail network that extended to Turkey and beyond.

Basra would not serve as rail network center?

Not for the Axis. They won't have a rail link to Berlin from Basra if Turkey is neutral. With Turkey Axis controlled it means trains with supply can be sent from Berlin to Istanbul and further into the Middle East after being ferried across the Bosporus.

Hello,

This isn't a big enough of an issue to warrant starting a new thread. Some feedback on the manual for the mod team. There is a table in the manual(page 98 in the ed 2.0 manual, page 88 in the 1.05 manual) that indicates UK(rather than just Allied) needs to have sufficient naval presence in the Med or Axis get +10 sypply points.

_augustus_ //who printed out this very table to keep track what is his supply limit would be as the situation progresses and took great and costly steps to sink UK presence in the Med. And now that US ships entered the Med all that effort was for nothing apparently. Arse, I say :? Granted other parts of the manual speak about Allied presence rather than UK, but I happened to print out this particular table and my whole strategy in the Med in my first game as the Axis went down the drain (imagine a headbanging-against-the-wall emotion here)

Greetings all,

I'd like to return to the subject of the Axis Africa supply limit and the manual. Please could the persons in the know give a definite reply on this. As the two sections in the manual don't seem to give such an info.

So non-UK Allied fleets will count towards the Allies presence in the Med. Fair enough.

But one section/table refers to "surface fleets" and the other to "capital ships" in the manual. To me DDs don't count as capital ships.

Is the exact requirement "any 3 surface fleets of which 1 needs to be a CV" or "3 BB/CV fleets with minimum of 1 CV"?

Yes, I could hotseat playtest this, but I'm sure there is at least one other player who is interested on a definite info the subject around...

For what is it worth I'm playing a 1.07 game, but sure if the rule will be different for 2.00 please share that too.

Sincerely,

I don't think anyone ever confirmed this, but my understanding is that the requirement here is "any 3 (Allied) surface fleets of which 1 needs to be a CV", is this definitely the case? Thanks

That's true. One or more of the 3 must be a CV. The non-CV ships can be DD or BB.

Thanks, could someone also confirm whether its true that (in GS 1.07 at least) control of Tunis counts for 10 supply in North Africa for the Axis, not just 2 like most North African ports? Also, do the Atlantic African ports of Tangier, Casablanca and Dakar count as 2 supply points each like the other North African ports? This is not clear from the documentation. Thanks.

Tunis is 10. You can check the general.txt for 1.07 GS.

Code: Select all

EACH_LIBYAN_PORT 5
TUNIS_PORT 10
EACH_OTHER_AFRICAN_PORT 2
GIBRALTAR_CAPTURED 10
MALTA_CAPTURED 10
FAILED_ALLIED_NAVAL_MED_GARRISON 10
Also, do the Atlantic African ports of Tangier, Casablanca and Dakar count as 2 supply points each like the other North African ports? This is not clear from the documentation. Thanks.
Empirical evidence from the game in which I got "screwed by the documentation" mentioned above showed that that at least Casablanca was counted as one of the "EACH_OTHER_AFRICAN_PORT". So there's a good chance Tangier and Dakar also contribute 2 to the limit if in Axis hands despite being on the Atlantic side.

_augustus_ //who has no gameplay or historical based opinion should Atlantic side (of possibly UK controlled Gibraltar) African ports contribute to Axis supply limit in MED.

I thought the axis got a small supply bonus for each Axis CV in the Med, or did I imagine that?
