28mm Gaming ranges, scales and table size
I am looking at having around 800 points worth of later Russians in 28mm. In order to have the same feel as a 15mm game what size table and points value woudl people play with in practice?
Does anyone increase an MU length to make movement rates adn ranges much like they are in 15mm in comparison to the base size.
I am thinking:
1mu = 1.5 inches
4.5 HF
6 MF/Kn/CAT
7.5 LF/Cv
10.5 LH
range combat
3 javelins/firearm
6 normal
9 extreme
Adding 50% half to the table size woudl then require a 9 by 6 but I am thinking 8 by 5 would be ok if it was 750 points or so.

I use 1 MU =30mm for 25mm scale - because I find that using an MU which is a multiple of the base width makes life easier.
For instance, the 2MU 'restricted zone' becomes a base width, which is really easy to see on the table.
I tried 40mm, and found it too big, and I tried 1 inch and found it too small.

At the HMGS-E conventions, 25-28mm games are played with 1 MU = 40mm, 800 point armies, on a 5' x 8' table. Everything else is the same as 15mm. In the games that I played, it seems to work just fine.

This is what we do. It takes a little getting used to, the 1MU being 1 inch with 28mm minis, but the game works very well. I have used 1MU equals 40mm in a couple of tournaments. It is a HUGE change in manuverability and really changes the game play. We play smaller games, 600 or 650 points, and can finish easily in short evening. This weekend we are playing a multi-game mini-campaign using 600 point armies on 8x4 tables. We will start at 10:00 am and finish in the late afternoon. 650 points is the perfect sized game ... 800 point games simply drag on without adding much to the game. All IMHO of course.Blathergut wrote:Deadtorius and I have been playing the rules in 25mm since they came out. We've simply used them as is, no changes, and have enjoyed every game.

Yes as primarily I am embarking on 28mm as a modelling excercise I want to be able to field the lithuanians with:deadtorius wrote:In my case 650 or 800 points means more cataphracts, which I always like to get on the table.![]()
1000 points is most everything I have painted up, but it does look impressive when its all deployed.
2 heavy artillery
A decent sived gulay gorof (FF)
some peasantry behind it all
3 BG of russian nobles (armoured Cav)
some lithuanian nobles (armourned Cav)
The 4 BG of mandatory Lithuanian Cv/LH
A BG of Teutonic knights.
