Do pursuers have to follow routers into broken / rough / difficult going?
We may not be reading it correctly but we assume that once a pursuer has lost contact they cease pursuit. For cavalry pursuers this doesn't feel right? Maybe they should keep pursuing until outdistanced by say 3 MU's or until they pass a CMT to cease pursuit?

YEs once they break free they have stopped compulsory pursuit. You can however charge routers if you want to continue the pursuit - it gives you the choice.

A question related to pursuit after the game played yesterday.
When are the casualties suffered by troops routing while still in contact with pursuers removed?
Is it at the end or at the start of the rout/pursuit move?
Looking at the order of the bullets, we played that it was at the start of the move.
The question could be important in the case where routers have to contract through a gap between friends behind them (having less bases, especially if you lose those the farthest away from the gap, can be helpful in such cases).
This led us to a strange situation: an infantry BG was broken by 2 enemy cavalry BG. Casulties were heavy and only 4 bases started the rout. 2 were lost in the initial rout move. Since the infantry slowed its move, they were caught by the pursuing cavalries. In the interbound, the infantry loses 2 more bases, effectively wiping out the BG. The question now is: do the cavalry have to make a new pursuit move in the interbound? Since there was nobody left to pursue, we ruled that they could not, but was it an option?
In the game played yesterday, this extra pursuit move would have resulted in a fresh attack.
