End of the Beta
Hi guys
this is to let you know that we have come to the end of the beta and the beta servers will soon be closed down. That's the bad news.
The good news is that it is because the game is complete and ready for release!
Thanks to all of you who helped play test the game. You can see how far it's come in recent months and a good deal of this is down to the feedback from you guys. We really appreciate it.
The live servers are being turned on. The gold master is being uploaded to Digital River. The pre-orders will be sent out tomorrow as planned.
We look forwards to seeing you all continue to play on the live server with the full game!
Good luck and have fun!

Ok my questions to you have been answered effectively Ianiainmcneil wrote:Once again - thanks to everyone who helped on the beta.
The beta servers are now closed. The beta serial numbers have been revoked and the beta versions will expire for single player any day now.

I will not be able to get my purchase in for a while (been a bit stupid with my plastic this summer hehe).
Consider me a purchase in due time though.

We usually give out discount vouchers. We have much larger beta tests than Matrix - up to 300 at a time and it just isn't possible to give out that much free stuff. Many people sign on because they think they'll get a free game at the need and dont actually take part in the beta test. To discourage this we dont give out free games as it has backfired in the past.
E.g. of the 200 beta testers on BA only about 10-20 of you have really helped! And you've been a big help.
I'm going to be sending out vouchers to everyone later on, when I get the final list of beta from Phil today. These will give you 25% of any game in our catalogue, so even if you've bought BA you'll still be able to use it.

Free is nice (of course it's nice).
But I consider beta help as a treat in itself. Allows me to influence the game so I like it even more.
I have no beef with paying for games I like
Wargaming is hardly a hobby with 'millions' of sales. Heck there just isn't millions of us
My only regret, I spent too much this summer and common sense is requiring me to get my plastic under control hehe.
A pity my birthday and father's day are already past hehe. And my anniversary isn't till October (by then I hope I have beaten up the plastic debt).
I'll just have to be patient (not like I haven't had a chance to experience the game though
).

I have helped beta test a lot of games, including way back to games such as "Flight Commander" and before BA, Empires of Steel (a good game by the way). It's gone anywhere from receiving a boxed verision, to keeping the beta and to just being involved and having to purchase the final product.
While we'd all love to get free stuff, the games I helped with an received free, we also got "recognition" in the manual and you could see how limited the betas were (like 5 to 10 people).
I look at it like an earlier poster; I like to have input when possible and when time allows and I like to play game, especially tactical ones. You have to be prepared for ruff spots and crashes (what a headache) at least in the early betas, but you get to play the game! It's almost like a pre-demo, but usually with the full game! Then when you're done, you can move on or purchase the game.
I was very happy to help with this game as it was a refreshing surprise to me and I will be purchasing it and continuing with the battles (I was a short-timer in the beta process on this game - a late comer).
Good game Slitherine.
