Teleporting Generals?

Post by expendablecinc »

In a game last night a someone wanted to move a general away from BG they were with towards a BG they wanted to join later on. In doing so they would move into bowshot of enemy archers.

We looked for if this woudl have an impact or put the general at risk but coudl only find:

paraphrasing:
"... if a BG moves such that it would contact or come into shoot range of an enemny general that general must immediately move to join a friendly BG or it is lost... "

G = general
A = firendly BG 1
B = friendly BG 2
^ = enemy bow facing towards postiion X

A--------Y
A-----------------B
G--------X--------B

----------^

Can the general move to postion X in range of ^ in the JAP?
If so in the enemy movement phase could he leap across to join B?

If he cant voluntarily move to X can he move to Y (outside bow range) then if the Bow move up the screen does the General then shoot off to Join B in the enemy movement phase.

It appears that the clause enabling a general to move another 7 inches in the enemy movement phase can lead to players intentionally exposing thier generals or moving them in the path of advancing bow in order to get a free teleport.

That is indeed the case.

If you do it in your own movement phase there is no risk at all. If you do it in your JAP then there is a chance that your opponent may be able to mess things up for you.

While possible it doesn't seem to happen a lot in the games I play.
