drilled/undrilled?
I am completely mystified by the new rules on drilled units, and after a few multiplayer game chats it seems that other people are, too. I literally cannot tell the difference between drilled and undrilled units, besides the fact that they cost an extra point to take. I mean, I can no longer move and turn, unless I move forwards; yet, so long as I move forwards, undrilled units can turn now anyway.
There used to be a very big difference between drilled and undrilled, but right now I don't notice any.

The difference is going to be the +1 on CMT and when moving a drilled unit you can do a partial move then change facing and continue moving. If undrilled the facing change can only occur at the end of the move. Obviously in these 2 situations I'm not talking about making turns during your move with movement points but the free turns that units are granted.grumblefish wrote:I am completely mystified by the new rules on drilled units, and after a few multiplayer game chats it seems that other people are, too. Okay, this one sounds helpful, stop them from charging out of ranks, but...pantherboy wrote: The difference is going to be the +1 on CMT
when would anybody need this? I can't think of any moment where I've clicked on one square, turned right, then clicked on the next square. I would just originally click on the destination, approaching from the angle that gives me the ultimate facing direction that I want.and when moving a drilled unit you can do a partial move then change facing and continue moving.

Re: drilled/undrilled?
When moving a drilled unit the possible hexes it can reach have already been mapped out for you and they include the facing change during the move thus you may not notice the slight advantage it has in maneuvering. Also by manually doing the turn instead of just clicking the destination hex you will have better control of your facing. For example move 1 hex then choose your new facing and continue moving. If you don't then sometimes you'll only change facing by one hexside though you'd prefer two hexsides as the computer is just taking the shortest distance. This has allowed me to better deploy and flank my enemies. Remember also that if you change facing during the move you won't be afforded an opportunity to face change at the end thus undrilled units need to move forward only if they want a free face change but drilled can do the face change at any point during their move.grumblefish wrote:Okay, this one sounds helpful, stop them from charging out of ranks, but...pantherboy wrote: The difference is going to be the +1 on CMT

You might also notice that undrilled who start a move by not going straight forward will lose a hex of movement due to that first turn they have to make to move off to the side or backwards. I believe drilled troops will be able to move full even if not just straight ahead, making your drilled troops slightly faster than the undrilled.
