proposal to make Fortress as unmovebele as towns.

How may I fix fortresses, they disappeared after a capture.Is it possible to add them to the list of unit purchase like 100 PP for one?( to Dev. You miss Brest Fortress- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defense_of_Brest_Fortress)(my proposal to add them because in my opinion it is more than buildings- minefields tranches barricades etc.) :idea: :!:

You can edit the 1939.scn file to your liking. The definition of the hexes (i.e., owner, terrain type, etc.) are listed in order of id from 0 to 10,799; where

hex id = 72x + y (0 <= x <= 149 and 0 <= y <= 71).

Given hex id; it's x,y coordinates is: x = int(id/149) & y = id - 72x

For example the hex at Leningrad has coordinates of x = 110 & y = 8, which is a hex id = 7928. This means that the row 7929 in the 1939.scn file defines this hex. Note it's row 7929 because hex id = 0 is row 1. Anyway, hex row 7929 is,

If you wish to change terrain definitions (i.e., add forts) you'll need to figure out what each of these columns mean and change them accordingly for the desired hex. If I had those definitions I'd give them to you but I haven't gone through and figured that out yet. By the way, if (or when) you do please post that as it would be useful information for folks like you who wish to tweak the game to their liking.

No. Well, not without significant recoding of the game engine, which is way beyond the scope of our team. In fact the effort required to implement such a feature compared to what it would add to the game is in, my opinion, not very cost effective.

Fortresses with production are permanent while fortresses without will be removed when captured.

The fortress of Brest-Litovsk was deliberately not added there because it didn't last very long. Instead a corps unit is placed there instead of the usual garrison. This means the Germans have to use tac bombers, mech etc. to capture the city on turn 1 of Barbarossa. The actual fortress was neutralized after only 8 days even though pockets of defenders hid in the dungeons in the fortress and harassed the Germans for 6 weeks. GS is a strategic game and conquest of a hex means that you can use the hex facilities like production, rail movement etc.

Hegra fortress in Trøndelag in central Norway held out for 60 days, but I would never dream of putting it on the map. The reason is that the Germans simply ignored the fortress and the defenders inside the could do little to hamper German operations in Trøndelag.

There are many other fortresses that could have been on the map in a more tactical game. One is Eben Emael in Belgium, but this fortress was easily taken out by the Germans by landing paragliders on top of the fortress to demolish it before the troops got there.

So the main fortresses on the map are the ones who proved to hold the enemy lines for quite a lot of time (Gustav Line, Siegfried Line, Maginot, Sevastopol, Leningrad etc.).

If more fortresses should have been on the map the I would have considered adding fortresses in Brest (France), Nantes and Cherbourg. Taking these cities became a real problem for the Allies. I wouldn't add these before we don't have marines and Mulberries in GS. Making it even harder for the Allies to capture a port to get supply level 3 would make Overlord even harder. Another side effect is that the British can send corps units to these cities in 1940 and then the Germans would struggle to capture them. These cities became fortresses because the Germans built the Atlantic wall.
