Not a Beta - and installation went perfectly, though I guess non regulars to the forum may not have spotted that a double upgrade from 1.28 to 1.2.9 to 1.3.0 is required.

Just had my backside handed to me as Krateros in a SP run through of Hellespont. Tough scenario.

I'm debating whether to buy this...the main reason I would do so is for the new maps--can anyone confirm how many new maps are included for 800-1000 pt DAG battles?

You should definately get this one, 76mm. Lots of very cool and very diverse armies. Much much more interesting than SOA, I think. Even at 500 points, hoplite battles are huge because they're so cheep compared to pikes.

Well, is a great add-on has very interesting armies and provide more hoplite armies and a little more pike options, new unit images are great and do this army type beautiful.

Oooo some armies can have lots of HF units, like barbarian armies in RoR but with hoplites, you can create big armies with 500 points... well, at least in unit numbers, with 500 points have 20.000 soldiers in the battlefield is very difficult :(

For me is a good buy today, wait say the same in 3 or more months

Cool Troops

The Achaemenid Persians are cool. I really like the look of the Spear-Bow units. Immortals are Superior Mediums armed with bow & spear. I have a couple of online games going now - both against Greek armies, so will see how they go. A honorable mention must go the Indian figures .... some serious painting there. The elephants and Heavy Chariots are impressive.

Cheers, Claymore

They are historical, so it's not a balancing issue!

Anyway all armies have strengths and weaknesses.

I used the Persians today and defeated a classical Greek army. You have to use your armies strengths. If you go head to head you will lose.

I just finished a game as Early Achamenids (37 APs) vs. a Thessalian army (55 APs) of mostly hoplites and won prettyy easily despite being on a bugged map. It's a great little army I intend to use again.

Same here. My Early Persians were more than a match for a Thessalian army. Use your bows to wear down the opposition before you charge. Use your Immortals in broken terrain. Simple really.

Stumbled across a new unit/graphic I hadnt seen before: "Lykian Swordsman with Depranon"

I must say, this is one of the nicest looking graphics I have seen, the figure eight shield is quite Homeric.... Uh, what the heck does "with depranon" mean ?

There is usually no shortage of rough stuff! I won initiative and chose very open and got fields and steep hills!!!

Well; actually it is a "drepanon", and it was a type of curved sword - possibly a precursor of the rhomphaia. (Which was a concave curved sword with a long handle, often wielded 2-handed - hence the heavy weapon classification).

Just barely lost to a thracian army with a spartan army. Some of it had to do with terrain, some to my mediocre play, some to great play by my opponent.

72 AP's to 45 ap's at 500 points. Numbers can be used to good effect. Light spear are not as bad as you think.
