Mitanni

Post by fgilson »

I have a bunch of chariots...and wanted to look at a Biblical army emphasizing them.

I can fairly well put Mitanni together given the support troops on the list and my available figures. I'm just wondering about he necessity to be Drilled, or not drilled.

The list choice would be either:
4 TC
6 BG 4 LCh Superior/Undrilled/Bow
4 BG 8 MF Protected/Average/Undrilled/Light Spear-Swordsmen front rank, Bow second rank
5 BG 6 LF Unprotected/Poor/Undrilled/Javelin-Light Spear
15 BG, 800 Army Points, +1 PBI

Or:
4 TC
6 BG 4 LCh Superior/Drilled/Bow
3 BG 8 MF Protected/Average/Drilled/Light Spear-Swordsmen front rank, Bow second rank
5 BG 6 LF Unprotected/Poor/Undrilled/Javelin-Light Spear
14 BG, 800 Army Points, +1 PBI

I may have too much poor LF...but it's cheap filler and I do need skirmishers to provide me enough double moves. It's also hard to beat their extremely low point cost for that purpose.

I think it would work better drilled than undrilled.

All my experience (admitted limited compared with many on this forum :( ) suggests drilled foot are much more useful than undrilled foot.

Great...I'd agree that it's certainly easier for me to use Drilled foot than Undrilled...;) given my experience.

3x8 units can be 4x6 also, retaining a good BG count:
4 TC
6 BG 4 LCh Superior/Drilled/Bow
4 BG 6 MF Protected/Average/Drilled/Light Spear-Swordsmen front rank, Bow second rank
5 BG 6 LF Unprotected/Poor/Undrilled/Javelin-Light Spear
15 BG, 800 Army Points, +1 PBI

It's also possible here to drop Drilled from the Light Chariots (although it is a nice luxury), drop one LF unit, and add 6 Undrilled MF...If there's too much LF and a need for one more MF unit.

Get the LCh then MF drilled, then worry about other stuff.

But it is nonetheless accurate. Almost any foot improve significantly by becoming drilled.
