overlap in melee
Hi guys,
when you add a unit to a melee in overlap, may the unit be border to border to the enemy and its front rank front corner to the back corner of the ennemy?

For a base to fight as an overlap it must be in corner to corner or edge to edge contact with the overlapped base, or behind a base in such a postition (where it would fight/add POA if in frontal contact). You can't go past the enemy front fighting rank and count as overlap. (IIRC)

Can't you? I break one enemy unit, pursue, but do not catch the enemy. The side of that battle group of mine is now firmly against the side of an enemy battlegroup otherwise engaged frontally with one of my other BGs.philqw78 wrote:For a base to fight as an overlap it must be in corner to corner or edge to edge contact with the overlapped base, or behind a base in such a postition (where it would fight/add POA if in frontal contact). page 76 "SIDE EDGE TO SIDE EDGE ONLY" "...Battle groups in side edge to side edge contact are not committed to close combat, and are free to move away. If they do not move away, no combat occurs UNLESS THEY ARE ELIGIBLE TO FIGHT AS AN OVERLAP..." (my emphasis)
page 75, first bullet "Full or partial SIDE EDGE TO SIDE EDGE contact with an enemy base that is in front edge contact with friends." (my emphasis)
So, my short pursuing BG that ends up in side edge to side edge contact with an adjacent enemy BG which is already in contact with one of my other BGs should be able to fight with one file as an overlap?

IMO they could not add POA's.
The above is always useful to know. Only troops contributing dice to a combat will pursue if the enemy breaks. If there is another nice target in the direction of the break or you want to keep in contact in pursuit, push your overlaps as far forward as possible, but keeping them in contact with enemy fighting bases. It means they have more chance of keeping up in pursuit, or catching that juicy support unit.

This is 2 different BG.deadtorius wrote:I didn't think you could break up your BG like that, pushing your overlapping bases ahead of the rest of your BG. I thought you had to stay in formation which means side base to side base contact with friends. Or perhaps I was wrong
