Ephesos 498BC
Greeks (17 BGs) vs Persians (38 BGs)
At the beginning of the 5th century BC, the Ionian Greeks revolted against the Persian rule. After an unsuccessful attack on Sardis which ended with the city in flames, the Greek strategos, Charopinos of Miletos, retreated towards Ephesos. Artaphernes, satrap of Lydia, pursued them with 1600 cavalry, 6000 sparabara, 2000 Lydian hoplites and the same number of Mysian peltasts. When the two forces finally engaged, the Greek phalanx, consisting of 5000 Ionian and 1000 Athenian and Eretrian hoplites, was deployed with the Cayster river on the left. Only 1200 peltasts and psiloi protected the phalanx's right flank from the attack of the Persian cavalry.

This scenario is based on F.E. Ray's reconstruction of the battle, as presented in his superb book "Land battles in 5th century B.C. Greece". I have reduced the numbers of Lydians and Mysians (from 4000 to 2000 each) to give the Greeks a chance to win. There is still room for changes in the OOBs, so feel free to make comments and suggestions.
A couple of links for the interested reader:

Note that I have decided to "sign" my scenarios from now on by adding "(Ex)" to the battle title, just to avoid any confusion with the official scenarios.
Lets see if this scenario gathers more interest than Cocherel
Update 2010-08-12: new version with revised OOBs. It should be easier to win as the Greeks now, although the battle is still very hard (more than Lucena!).
