Does the line on the QRS :-
"Troops wishing to break-off voluntarily or to stop looting camp"
refer solely to combat with a camp. IE there is no voluntary disengagement in the game?
Troops wishing to (break-off voluntarily) or (to stop looting camp)
or
Troops wishing to (break-off voluntarily or to stop looting) camp
???

It came about when light cavalry charged (maybe rashly) into a lot of Thracian peltasts.. They ended up on a + being mounted VS medium open. They threw well, and won - the Thracians then threw low and disrupted. However, in the following rounds. With exta ranks and overlaps the Thracians chopped up the Light Cav , who couldn't get away as the foot weren't 'steady'... felt a bit strange

Our view is that voluntary break-offs slow the game down too much. Also that if skirmishers decide to risk close combat with non-skirmishers then they must take the consequences if they lose. Rationalisation: It is hard to organise a concerted rallying back move once the melee has broken up in a swirling mass (i.e. vs non steady foot).list_lurker wrote:It came about when light cavalry charged (maybe rashly) into a lot of Thracian peltasts.. What we don't want is for skirmishers to be able to hit and run in close combat - they have missile weapons and can shoot if they want to hit and run. In AoW close combat means close combat, it does not mean shooting at point blank range.
If they can't stand the heat they should stay out of the kitchen.
