Apparent bug, and a solution

Post by Redpossum »

Hello, everyone!

I am rather new to GoT. I found the demo about 10 days ago, played that for 48 hours, and then bought the full game.

I have to say I love it. This is a much-ignored period of history, (and tragically so), unless you count sleazy, grossly-unrealistic RTS games like Age of Empires and its clones.

OK, introductions complete. On to the meat of the post.

I have noted that when playing the 1500 BC Campaign in GoT, with the difficulty settings at either Easy or Normal, the other empires never expand.

I am talking 200 turns into the game, and nobody but me has more than one city.

This obviously can't be right, so I went looking.

I made a backup copy of Tweaks.txt, then made the following changes to the original

*****
Difficult Settings - %age of building & squad costs AI pays on this difficulty level
AILEVEL0 changed to 150 (was 200)
AILEVEL1 changed to 120 (was 150)

How long to prevent AI building units
AIDelay0 changed to 1 (was 12)
AIDelay1 changed to 1 (was 6)
*****

I am now playing on Normal difficulty level, and the problem seems to be solved.

Your thoughts, gentlemen?

To answer a few obvious questions -

1. No, I didn't install the full game over the demo :)

2. No, I had not modified the game in any way prior to this.

3. Yes, I had played the 1500 BC scenario to 200+ turns on both Easy and Normal settings, and observed no explansion at all by any other combatant.

There are some random elements which may have caused this problem and every scenario specifies how many resources each side can spend per turn. This means each difficulty level on each map has to be thoroughly tested and we may have overlooked some of the combinations. If anyone else experiences the same problem let us know the map and you can try possums solution, or let us know and we'll sort you out.

Out of interest, which version do you have?

Gates of Troy, standalone. Spartan is not installed.

When I am at the main screen, the info at top left reads -

text v1.017, code : 2411 [3D](Troy)

The install file I downloaded is named GatesOfTroy-setupv100f.exe

I looked at the CD when my physical shipment arrived, and the file on the CD was the same exact name and file size as the one I'd downloaded, so I didn't bother re-installing from the CD.
