Do you mean you clicked 'Retry', and the game told you it had sent your turn successfully, but actually it was as if it hadn't sent, and it was still your turn?

No, by retrying I mean I had to go back to multiplayer (after my turn hung up and failed to send) and play the same turn again (with different results of course...). So the turn I tried to send initially is lost somewhere in cyberspace.

That's why I would like to see a system implemented that saves your turn if it fails to send for one reason or another.
That way you could send the turn when the connection or whatever is OK again, without having to replay the whole turn and get different results, like it is now.

Weird, my reply with the quotes wouldn't go through initially, I tried again without quotes, and now both replies are sent...

I (almost) had the problem again today.

The last turn I tried to send was "uploading game instance" forever again, and I know from experience that eventually results in the error-1 bug.

In exasperation, I clicked "cancel" and immediately after that "retry" and my turn was sent (without having to play it again)! Phew! What a relief...

Would that do the trick every time? I'm wondering...

PS: I had great trouble getting this message posted again. I hope that's not an ominous sign...

I had to disable Windows Firewall to get the above message posted, even though FoG is listed as an exception.

I think I'll just disable my firewall while posting here or playing FoG in the future.
I hope this won't set me up to big risks from another calibre...

It probably isn't (just) the firewall either.

My last turn kept on 'hanging' again (with the firewall disabled), and this time I had to "cancel" and "retry" 10 times or so, but my turn eventually got sent without having to play it again.

1) Never turn off your firewall.

2) Almost all modern firewall software lets FOG access the game turn servers without any pop ups or need to manually edit your firewall settings.

3) The problem with some firewall software, and in particular older firewall software, is it may look like you have added fognet.exe to the firewall settings but you have not! Why? Older versions of Norton for example assign every instance of an application a secret id e.g. fognet.exe may be fognet.exe.1. Reinstall fognet.exe and the secret id of the new version is fognet.exe.2. The firewall still shows fognet.exe as allowed to access the internet but it means fognet.exe.1 and not the new version, say from a patch fognet.exe.2.

4) How do you resolve this. If, after a patch, you have a firewall/connection issue and you did not have one before then start by deleting your old firewall settings and then add fognet.exe.

5) A good thing to do is to update your firewall softwares basic engine. Using the update button within your firewall software is not the the way to do this, this usually just gets things like the latest virus definitions. If you subscribe to updates such as from Norton or McCaffee you also need to, at least once a year, go to their web site and download and install the latest version of the core application, this is usually free for subscribers.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try those out.

considering point 5) I don't have Norton or MCafee but Kaspersky, that updates automatically and of which I prolong the license once a year, allowing me to install a new/updated version.
So I don't think I have to do anything manually in Kaspersky. At least I hope so, as I wouldn't know how to...

I have to post in short messages again. Why is still a mystery but definitely connected to my MP issues.

Firewall on/off (with FoG withdrawn and re-introduced as an exception after the patch as in 4) above)
Kaspersky antivirus on/off
Internet connection ok, no ISP issues

Sometimes my turn gets sent, sometimes it hangs and keeps 'uploading instance' forever, without rhyme or reason apparently.

'cancel' and 'retry' helped once immediately, once after trying 10 times or so, but now the game obstinately keeps refusing to send my turn.

If I keep waiting for 'uploading game instance' I eventually get the error-1 bug and have to do the turn all over again (and then it won't send again...).

If I cancel out completely it's the same: my turn sits back in multiplayer and I have to do it all over again.

In short, I'm at the end of my tether.

I wish there was a way to tell if my turn 'll get sent before I start playing.

Or, failing that, a way to save a turn if it fails to send. I could live with that. Can't be too hard to implement, or could it?

The reason for not doing that is open things up to cheating. The current system makes it almost impossible.
