So the Error-1 and posting problems are definitely connected, at least in my case.

I'm pretty sure that if it were a widespread issue then we would have other post about it. Previously there was problem with the server causing the widespread problems.

Is there any way you can try from a different machine? Can you look to see whether your security software has any kind of monitoring going on (it could easily be being triggered by a specific time or something causing some sequence of bytes to trigger the heuristic which attempts to stop information being transmitted).

Your best bet is to try altering system settings (or NAT/router settings if you use one) and attempt to send a turn to try and work out which of the many elements of your system is the culprit. I appreciate it's not a great solution, but it might lead you to discovering the problem.

Cheers

besides, when kaspersky doesn't 'trust' a program, I get notified. Which isn't the case here.

If you can't post to the forum in long chunks, that would absolutely explain the issue (basically you're doing something very similar when you try and post up a game).

Is it possible your ISP has some traffic shaping in place? If you're playing a lot of games they might flag you as an 'uploader' or something. I can't see the traffic from FoG triggering anything frankly, but just looking at every possibility. Or they might have flagged the site as being bad in some way (if they got erroneous spam info or something).

Sending off a quick email to them explaining what is occuring might enable them to see what is going on.

Cheers

I also have no idea how to alter my system settings. Besides, the game (usually) works with the settings as they are...

My internet activity can't possibly qualify as being an 'uploader', and I highly doubt they'd have such a policy anyway. And in any case they'd notify me.

Also my troubles wouldn't just be with FoG in that case.

So maybe they flagged slitherine.com as 'bad'? But why would they stop doing that 2 months ago, and do it again now?

And besides, I can still receive and see incoming turns (which they'd logically block if they perceived the site as 'bad'). I just can't send any.

Still, FoG apparently isn't on my 'exceptions' list for Windows firewall. Neither was it when I had no problems, but I added it and will now see what happens.

This is just a test to see if I can make longer posts yet. If I can, I'll probably be able to send turns too.
So don't mind the following nonsense, it's just to fill up the post.

So far so good, although at the start of this thread I could still make longer posts, after I couldn't send turns anymore.

I'll try to send a turn now and see how it goes.

Hooray! Sending a turn worked.
Too tired now to try the others (those that bugged initially), however.
Hopefully they can also be continued.

So maybe it was the Windows firewall exception thingy after all.
Or some weird coincidence.

I wonder why the game still (usually) worked without being added to the exceptions though.
I've also seen now most of my other games apparently installed themselves in the exceptions automatically, or I got a prompt when trying to play online for the first time...

Anyway, thanks for your help at this time of night Pip!

Fingers crossed that you have found the issue. Sometimes firewall operation changes or updates - who knows!

An error -1 happened again...

After updating to 1.28, I proceeded to do a turn in each of the three games I'm currently playing.

The Trebbia and Portuguese vs. Pontic turns (that bugged earlier) were sent to my opponents without a glitch (but of course I had to play them again...).

My Low Countries vs. Numidians game showed up with the usual "uploading instance..." and then "error-1" when trying to send my turn.

I checked and FoG is still treated as an 'exception' by Windows Firewall so that isn't the problem.
Also, I checked and definitely had a working internet connection when trying to send my turn. I'm also not flagged as a 'heavy user' or something by my ISP.

I wonder if it's still the same problem I was having from time to time, or if it has something to do with the new patch, or a combination of these factors.

In any case, 2 of my 3 turns were sent, while usually it's either all or nothing for a while.

If I can post this without too much trouble, I'll suppose it was just a short glitch. In that case I'll take a chance and play and try to send the bugged turn again.

I had this error earlier today, I got it when the game was trying to retrieve my games list. I retried and it worked fine.

Same story here.

I retried and the turn was sent smoothly. But of course I had to play it again...

I hope this won't happen too often though.
And if it does: why not implement a feature that saves your turn in case it's not sent for one reason or another?
So you could simply send the turn again instead of having to replay it whole...
