Re-downloading Rise of Rome?

Post by Profanicus »

Hi.
I have Rise_of_Rome_1_1_0.exe. Is there any way of getting the newer remastered army pack version, to simplify future reinstalls?
My 30 day download window at Digital River is long gone lol :)

Sorry the only way to get it is via digital river so you need to get the extended download service to download again.

Ah that's a shame I had hoped your policy on that would be more in line with Matrix's. They give you access to re-download your game regardless of whether you have bought the extended download service or not.

No they don't - they cant as they use the same service with DR as we do :)

Lol ok plenty of misinformation in the Matrix forums then! :D

Doing some more digging I find this comment from Matrix staff:
Actually, by default you have a year to re-download. If you buy the extended download service, you can re-download forever. That's the reality of it, despite what the store says (DR requires us to say 30 days and 2 years).
It's been 3.5 months since I downloaded RoR; guess I am just unlucky. I could pay another $5 for the extended download, but I checked and the download link on findmyorder.com is still for rise_of_rome_1.1.0.exe, and not the newer release. :P

Anyway it seems a little unfair to release an installer fix and basically expect earlier customers to pay $5 for it.

Ok, Erik has cleared this up in the Matrix forums - they DO allow unlimited downloads regardless of whether you paid 5 bucks extra or not:
as long as we are around, if you get a message from DR that you cannot re-download all you have to do is contact us and we'll reset your downloads.

Now this is confusing! I have "Rise of Rome" 1.1.0. You mean to tell me there is a revised version of "Rise of Rome"? What is this "remastered army pack" version?

I have the core game of "Field of Glory" updated to 1.2.6. Does this updated version include the revised "Rise of Rome"?

The patches can always be downloaded for free, what ever version of the game you start with. The links to download patches are in the opening/launcher screen on starting FOG.

For those who did not save the install file download from Slitherine the first time there may be a few ways to get to the download as you may well still have it:

1) Check your [user name who bought the software online]/My Documents/Downloads folder as your browser may well have saved your download there, even if you told it not to.
2) Check your [user name who bought the software online]/Downloads folder as your browser may well have saved your download there, even if you told it not to.
3) If you used FireFox, Chrome or Safari check the download settings as unless you have cleared the download cache the download you bought is still likelyto be stored by that in whaver folder they use to cache downloads and still available.
4) If you have any half decent backup software you may well be able to recover the downloaded install file from the backup of one of the above folders and if not, depending on your backup software, to recover the installed version.
5) If you use any software like Norton GoBack then you should definately be able to recover the install file and the installed application.

Keith,

You still didn't answer my question. Is there a newer version of "Rise of Rome" than version 1.1.0? I have "Rise of Rome" 1.1.0 but but the first post in this thread comments about a remastered version. Is "Rise of Rome" 1.1.0 the most current version or is there a newer version?

It's not a newer version, just an updated installer which includes the patch, to simplify installs for new players.

Cheers

It is an updated installer without patch 1.1 included, so it is now just army data in the same way that Storm of Arrows is.
It removes the need to install 5 things in a specific order to get the game running.
