Patching to 1.2.5 and Storm of Arrows
Sorry for the confusion. This has been a really touch learning curve for us and we've worked out how to make everything work, but he way we did patches previously has put us in a tricky position going forwards and for 1.2.5 and the release of Storm of Arrows we have to go through a bit of pain to get everyone synched back up.
Some background info
Depending on when you purchased Field of Glory you will either have downloaded v1.0, v1.1.0, or v1.2.5.
Depending on when you purchased Rise of Rome you will either have the 200MB Rise_of_Rome_1_1_0.exe or 83MB Rise_of_Rome.exe.
Storm of Arrows has only one installed - 83MB
When we released Rise of Rome we thought we would make it easier for all new customers by including the latest patch in the Rise of Rome installer. By trying to make it simpler for you guys we created a big mess for ourselves which we are digging ourselves out of now. This meant the original Rise of Rome included game files as well as army pack files. This was fine at the time. The problem was that after we had released updates for the main Field of Glory game post Rise of Rome release, anyone who installed Rise of Rome after applying the latest patches (e.g. 1.2.5) would be reverting their game to the version when Rise of Rome released (1.1.0).
To solve this issue we re-mastered Rise of Rome without any game files and without a version number. This makes it just the army packs as there is no version number or game data in it, it does not matter if you install it after any other patches or army packs. The only thing we had to do was ensure the code base was at the point it could support the Rise of Rome assets. This means the new Rise of Rome installer requires your version of Field of Glory be at v1.1.0 or higher before it will install.
Storm of Arrows was created using the new system from day 1. This means there is no game code there only army data so it can be installed after any patch any will not effect your version number. It also means Storm of Arrows requires v1.2.5 before it will let you install to ensure you have the game code to support the new units and features in Storm of Arrows. .
In addition to all this we also have Matrix. If you bought FoG from matrix patches up to 1.2.5 may require you to install the Matrix version. Going forwards either patch will work for everyone.
That gives you the background to why things are more complex than they should be for you guys!
So what should you do....
It depends whether you have the Rise_of_Rome.exe generic installer or the one that includes game files and has a version number.
If you have the generic installer you can just do this
• Install Field of Glory
• Patch to v1.1.1
• Patch to v1.2.5
• Install Rise of Rome (this can be done at any point after you install FoG 1.1.0)
• Install Storm of Arrows (this can be done at any point after you install FoG 1.2.5)
If you have the Rise_of_Rome_1_1_0.exe you need to do this in this order
• Install Field of Glory
• Patch to v1.1.1
• Install Rise of Rome
• Install v1.2.5
• Install Storm of Arrows
You can see the version number you have for Field of Glory on the bottom left of the main menu screen if you need to check.
Once again apologies for the confusion. We didn’t realise it would be so fiddly for people to update when released the patch or we would have made this clearer.

I was really hopeful that i would get Rise of Rome to install after applying patches 1.1.1 & 1.2.5 but alas, the message still informs me the patch I am using (the generic 83MB version of Rise of Rome downloaded at the same time as FoG ) updates a different version of Field of Glory = Is the problem my version (which I downloaded from Slitherine last month) which is FoG 1.0.1 not FoG 1.1.0 ?
Would really appreciate help on this, though I am lucky enough to have the hard copy of Rise of Rome & some good models etc to do the tabletop wargaming, it would be sweet to have the PC version to practice with.
Although Rise of Rome won't install, FoG is great, thanks for making the game work as well as it does.

Sorry I didn't get back from a trip away till this weekend, but I am thankful for your interest in my problem. Although I don't remember what happened, the dates on the files indicating when they were downloaded may help piece together where I went wrong?
1. -The Field of Glory application installed = Release Version 1.0.1, 18th November 2009 has the date 24/4/10 on my hard drive & the CD.
2. patch 1.2.5 - 24/4/10
3. patch 1.1.1 - 25/4/10
4. RoR (85,028kb) although file was created 24/4/10 it seems it was modified or used 5/5/10
5. FoG Map1 - 5/5/10
6. patch 1.1.0 15/5/10
The transactions on my debit card 26/4/10 support the initial download date being 24/4/10, but some how I seemed to have dropped the ball using patches 1.2.5 & 1.1.1 before running Rise of Rome installer?
I have removed The Field of Glory application using windows XPs software removal tool from the hard drive and reinstalling, but the same message saying I have the wrong version for the update keeps appearing.
Not going to let it ruin the game, but will I have similar problem with FoG version 1.0.1 if I download Storm of Arrows?
Thanks for your efforts to clear up this SNAFU

The version numbers tell you which are the most recent. You've installed older patches over teh top of newer ones. The dates on the files you refer to are when you downloaded them not when they were created. E.g. anything 1.2.x is newer than anything 1.1.x
You need to install v1.2.5 and then 1.2.6 to get up to the current version.
Storm of arrows will not effect your version number so you can install it any time. Hope this helps.

Thanks Iain, I now have Rise of Rome!
It was a little more tricky than I expected though as the patches 1.2.5 & 1.2.6 came up with the same message as the Rise of Rome update = that I had a version 0 FoG, that wouldn't update, but as you had outlined the system of update patches, I persevered running 1.0.1 , 1.1.0, 1.1.1 , until 1.2.5 finally ran , after which 1.2.6 & Rise of Rome 1.0 both ran without further problems.
Cheers! you've made an old wargamer very happy - Geoff

Unable to upgrade to 1.2.5
Hello
I am having an inordinate amount of trouble installing the updates - I am stuck at 1.1.0 and cannot install Storm of Arrows. My original FOG installer is field-of_glory_1.01.exe. I can install the patches upto 1.1.0. When I attempt to install 1.1.1 it tells me I have an invalid serial number. I can install the 1.1.2 patch but when I run the program it shows that it's version 1.1.0, not 1.1.2. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling following your suggested directions and also installing Rise of Rome, to no avail. I can't install Storm of Arrows, nor patches 1.1.1, 1.2.5 or 1.2.6.
I was in the process of getting a new PC and hoped that it would solve the problem; unfortunately, it did not. I have the same problem updating on the new machine as I had on the old.
Help!

Hello Painless,
I can sympathize with your plight, as I had a dickens of a job getting my version of FoG to accept the Rise of Rome update. Iain was very helpful, indicating that I had to run the earliest version patches (1.0.1,1.1.0,1.1.1) in sequence up to the latest (1.2.5 & 1.2.6) so that once my FoG version number = 1.2.6 it was good to go for installing RoR, plus had extra player created scenarios.
However I note you have the message indicating an invalid serial number, where I was getting messages saying I had the wrong version number (the patches I had run had caused my FoG version to revert to an earlier version incompatible with the version of RoR i was trying to install)?
The only time I had the wrong serial number message was when I entered the number in the box without putting a dash or minus sign between each group of 4 digits. But as you have already installed FoG & RoR without problems this sounds unlikely?
Good Luck!

Sorry to anyone having problems. We recently found out Digital River had been supplying the wrong version of Field of Glory to all new customers. You are supposed to receive v1.2.5 and they were seding the original 1.01 version from last year. If you have problem patching let me know and I'll work out another way to get you up to speed. Mail info@slitherine.co.uk with your order details.
Once again apologies for the inconvenience but it was totally out of our control.
We plan to eliminate the need for patches in the near future.

I'm being dense here but confused! I've bought the first 3 games on disc in the last month or so. fOw loaded fine as did RoR but SoA gives the the message referred to elsewhere ( "The installer cannot install the upgrade patch because the programme being upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch updates a different version of the programme." ).
What do i do to get it to run - uninstall all programmes and start again? If so which should be loaded in sequence with which patch? I tried down loading all the patches from first to last after RoR but still no luck.

Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions, but I am still stuck.
I have downloaded and_1.2.5.exe as suggested - which works fine. I then installed rise_of_rome_1.1.0.exe followed by storm_of_arrows.exe. When I ran FOG the Storm of Arrows scenarios weren't visible. I then installed the latest patch field_of_glory_patch_1.2.6.exe and this time the Storm of Arrows scenarios were visible. The game screen shows FOG is version 1.2.6. Unfortunately, when I try to run any scenario I get the following error message:
