getting the WAB types on board
It would be really nice to have basing convenstions a bit more flexible - partcularly for 25mm
I say this as I have been trying to decide if I should base my nice, big, expensive minis for DBM or WAB. If there was enough flexibilty in the basing conventions for DBM I would be happy - but 4 28mm figs to a 60mm frontage means v v small WAB bases. Now i have a big pile of lead waiting for me to decide what to do!
If it was easy to move WAB armies into the new format it would be great for building up more support from both directions.
just a (probably far too late) thought

Basing
Blame GW for basing its minis as individual "fantasy" figures, rather than in the traditional "2=skirmisher, 3=light, 4=heavy" configuration per base used by most other systems, including WRG, DBA/DBM. Armati, Classical Hack, Might of Arms, and Ancient Warfare.
Basing
I would suggest basing armies for DBX gaming, one can use WAB moving trays to switch to playing WAB- but it does not work the other way. Incidentally WABbers always invite DBXers to play and offer trays to "change systems" at
Tourneys at Lancaster , PA ( Cold Wars, Historicon). One can always "shimmy" the figs to count combats in WAB- since it is at fig to fig basis. However WAB basing does not work for DBM, DBR, DBA, Warrior, Armati, etc, etc...
So unless you want to lock yourself into one system...

I guess the problem here is that if you base on the DBx standard, then your minis are going to be placed too close together, and even putting them into movement trays for WAB is going to leave them rather oddly spaced, which I'm guessing could be an issue in determining base contact for combat purposes (he says, amaking an assumption about WAB based on WHF).
I think what I would be tempted to do, would be to look if I could contrive some mechanism whereby I could base each mini individually, on a very small base. This could then be slotted into place in either DBx size bases, or WAB size individual bases.
It would be a bit fiddly, but it could work. Especially if you use a GW 'slotta' type system.

I suspect the best way to use WAB based figures for AoW would be to accept that close order foot are only 3 to a base and all mounted at 2 to a base and then use sabot bases. 2 mounted figures look a bit sparse for my liking but it would work.
If you want to be clever you could make AoW mounted bases with a single figure in the middle and space for 2 WAB based figures either side.
All rather complex but possible.
Now if GW had decided on 15mm for a close order foot base and 20 for a mounted....

BTW all my "25mm" figures are actually 1/72nd scale plastics and they fit really comfortably on AoW bases but look a bit lonely on WAB ones.

Well I've seen plastic 1/72 figs used in DBM comps where the majority of armies are 25/28mm. As the whole army is 1/72 they look coherant and whilst the difference with their opponents is obvious it is not an issue as they use the same bases sizes.
So unless you get hung up on the aesthetic difference there is no problem IMO.

1/72nd scale is roughly 20mm, so it's a noticable difference, but not quite as bad as using 15mm figures. There's already a size problem due to the older 25mm figures looking a bit undernourished next to the newer "heroic scale" 28/30mm figures. Plastics actually look semi-decent next to a bunch of the older 25's, in comparison. And now a couple of companies are producing 40mm figs......
Yep, I played last year at Historicon- DBM theme with my Teutonic knights ( converted from WFB Bretonnians) vs true
25mm Late Polish. Ouch! Gives a new meaning to Knight Superior!
40mm figs ( and rather large Redoubt figs) look just fine, but maybe a better use in skirmish type games???
Redoubt made, American indians are to die for, BTW...
Manufacturers in general are sticking to 28mm "heroic scale" and it seems to work out well- a lot more details are available on the fig, better facial expressions.
